This family owned restaurant is super friendly and the food delicious. I chose this place for my birthday dinner with friends because I’d read a good review in a foodie blog. The owners made sure to introduce themselves and help with the ordering. The food was plentiful and delicious, mostly Northern Indian style. Yummy fresh Nan. And the Butter Chicken was delicious. We asked that the food be made spiced as the family eats their food. The Saag Paneer was probably a bit too hot, so watch it. We had a mixed platter of desserts and one wasn’t better than the next. Their rice pudding and Indian carrot cake were spiced perfectly. The other plus, we never felt rushed like they were trying to turn the table. In fact we closed out the place, actually still eating and visiting after the restaurant was closed. Easy street metered parking. Recommended.

Roots has a fabulous menu that covers all the bases. Excellent selection of appetizers, including aloo tikki and sev puri, wonderful mains including butter chicken, aka chicken makhni, vindaloo, and chicken tikka masala, biryanis, tandoori chicken, etc., etc. The owner, "Parma," makes you feel very welcome, and our server, Anami, was attentive and helpful. It’s an attractive place, and, hopefully, will soon have its alcohol license. For a restaurant that opened about five weeks ago, they really have it together. We had aloo tikki, sev puri, onion pakora, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, and garlic naan. We loved our meal and will return soon.

We stumbled across this restaurant while looking for somewhere to eat and I’m so glad we did! The staff were really friendly and the food was absolutely delicious!! We had the samosas, Sev puri and shared a roasted cheese Dosa. The food was so tasty I was blown away by it. The owner came over to speak to us and ask how the food tasted he was so friendly and chatty. Highly highly recommend visiting this place for super tasty food!

My recent visit to Roots of India was nothing short of a disappointment. We decided to give this place a chance based on the plethora of positive reviews and customer feedback, but it quickly became evident that something was amiss. Unfortunately, our experience was a far cry from what the reviews had led us to believe. The first issue we encountered was the service—or lack thereof. The staff seemed disinterested and unresponsive to our needs. It took an eternity for someone to acknowledge our presence, and when they finally did, they appeared unenthusiastic and distant. It was evident that customer satisfaction was not a priority for them. Moving on to the food, I can only describe it as mediocre at best. Despite the high prices, the quality of the dishes was far from impressive. The presentation was lackluster, and the taste was nothing special. We ordered several items from their supposedly "signature" menu, but none of them lived up to the hype. It felt as though the chef had little regard for culinary finesse and simply threw together uninspired dishes. Adding to the frustration, the portions were quite small, leaving us feeling unsatisfied and questioning the value for money. Given the steep prices, we expected a culinary experience that would justify the cost, but alas, it was nowhere to be found. What baffled us the most was the stark contrast between the overwhelmingly positive reviews online and the reality of our experience. It's hard to believe that any of those glowing reviews were genuine, given the lackluster service and underwhelming food we encountered. Our overall impression of Roots of India is one of disappointment and doubt. We left feeling that we had been misled by the numerous fake-seeming reviews, which leads us to question the authenticity of their online reputation. We would urge potential patrons to be cautious and not to place too much trust in the positive feedback this restaurant seems to have garnered. In conclusion, I cannot, in good faith, recommend Roots of India based on our unfortunate visit. The combination of terrible service, high prices, and low-quality food left us feeling unsatisfied and doubting the legitimacy of the restaurant's online reviews. We will not be returning, and I hope this review serves as a warning to others seeking an enjoyable dining experience.

We love this restaurant! The food is delicious and reasonably priced but it’s also a very welcoming and friendly place. Singh and the staff are just so friendly and accommodating. Since we discovered it a couple of years ago we come to Roots every year now for a large business dinner (15-20 people) in the spring. Once, I neglected to get an itemized for the dinner, something my employer requires. Almost a month after the dinner I contacted them and they dug into their records and responded SO quickly! As lovely as they are, go not lose sight of the fact that their food is delicious! Everyone always leaves delighted and satisfied. It’s a great place - GO!

Very nice people. The food is Meh. Reviews cited dishes that are not actually on the menu. Curry entrees do not include rice. The samosas are below average. Their “mild” is completely flavorless. Their cocktails are low alcohol drinks. The menu is very limited.

Delicious Indian food in new restaurant on Melrose. Excellent chicken tikka masala, malai kofta, onion pakora, and hot fresh naan. Attentive and friendly service. Liquor license is pending in this new restaurant, but you are welcome to bring in your own beer or wine. Definitely recommend!

Excellent food, excellent service and the personal touch all put together were a great experience. Having been away from India for almost two weeks we were craving for Indian food. Food at Roots reminded us of our home food. Roots is true to its name. Highly recommended. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
