I've enjoyed French cuisine, both "haute" and "country" since my first trip to Paris when I was 12 in the 1960s, and I have to rank this among the best. We were taken by friends whose favorite restaurant this is - one immediately notices the vast, comfortably decorated spaces - the main dining room contains well spaced, large banquettes, heavily upholstered with floor and wall treatments that help to mute sound and make conversation easy, a luxury in modern restaurant dining and reminiscent of restaurants long gone in the more glamorous days of the 1940s and 1950s. We opted for "traditional" service, i.e., a bottomless tureen of delicious soup (in this case the Friday special vegetable which was more complex in flavor than most I've had), a salad (in my case a REAL Caesar Salad - if it hasn't got anchovies it's not a Caesar - perfectly done, by the way, with just the right amount of cheese), and an entree, which was a really well done Chicken Breast a la Diable - I was very fond of the sauce which I had never had before, and the breast was properly sliced, pounded and very moist/tender and served with steamed fresh vegetables and rice. I could not decide on desert from the varied menu so our hosts suggested a superb Tarte Tatin which did not disappoint. Unfortunately we learned that the property had been sold to a developer and that the restaurant will close temporarily in the coming year and re-open in a smaller space in the apartment building to be built on the current site. While I'm sure the food will be just as extraordinary, it will be a shame to lose the comfortable, dining spaces of the current restaurant - we will definitely be returning as often as we can to sample other items on the menu and enjoy the current ambience before that happens. You should too.

Stoped by to have a meal in the quite confines of Taix. This is where you can hear a conversation with those at the table with you. Unsure as to how long this restaurant will remain open. We come once or twice a year, usually after a Sunday afternoon concert at Walt Disney Hall and the LA PHIL. It is a very convenient 6 minute drive. Alas, Bernard, a long time waiter has retired at 90 years of age. Wish him well. Dinner for 4, 2 orders of Trout, 2 orders of Steak Frites. Lovey fish, perhaps to much mushroom sauce, comes with rice, used to be with green beans, will ask for those next time. The steak, cooked perfectly, a little heavy on the peppercorn sauce, delicious French Fries, some of the best. Pinot Noir went well with meat, Prosseco with the fish. Good food, lovely space.

The restaurant moved to this location in 1962 from it's Little Tokyo location at 321 Commercial Street. I didn't realize how popular this restaurant could be and luckily I made reservations for dinner the night before Thanksgiving. They offer valet parking for $3.50 and once you walk inside you step back in time by decades. Our waiter has been working here for 37 years and he took our order of Lamb Shank and a chicken dish. The food was very good and very filling. If you have a special occasion to celebrate it's worth trying this gem out for a change.

I had not been here in many, many years; what a change. While the building is lovely, and the parking is ample, the menu is disappointing. For example, this is the first French restaurant with Hamburger as the first item on the menu. There were perhaps 3 or 4 "French" entrees; the rest were common items. The food, while well prepared, was nothing special. Service was fine. The prices were a bit high for what you get. The bar looked very inviting. While not a horrible experience, it was still disappointing. There are better choices close by.

In a city marked by mediocre food and poor service Taix is a gem! In business for over 90 years, sadly the property has been sold and the restaurant will be closing in the near future. I love to eat in the bar with its original decor and fireplace. The food is always consistent and the frog legs are one of my favorites. The staff can't do enough to make sure your visit is wonderful. Taix, you will be missed.

Spent major holidays and family get togethers in this charming restaurant. When I first started to come here I was in my mid-twenties , and 40 years later it is closing.Lots Angeles will never be the same without it, to me it will be always a nostalgic place. It is sad but all the old restaurants of yesterday are merely a memory. This restaurant always was great, never will forget the beef.tongue special plate on Mondays during lunch. Bowls of refillable soups and desserts tickled the palate with a food aelection of California and French wines to wash it down with. The waitress in the bar area.is gone way before , living across the street and walking to work a few hours during lunch. The stained glass wondowlets decorated the bar area and there was a sense of neighborhood intimacy about the neighborhood. After dinner , my wife and I took a stroll, inadvertently enjoying the air, and soaking in the sights and scents of echo park. Amee McPherson's church was a constant marvel along the stroll. Hope to go there before closing, scheduled 1 year from now.

Party of 50, we had 3 pre-selected entrees plus mac and cheese for kids. Food was very good, service was excellent. Simple salads, nicely prepared and not over dressed. Chicken was delicious. Valet parking was convenient and very reasonably priced. A very good value. Excellent for midsize and larger events.

This 90 years old restaurant is our favorite whenever we come to L.A ( Every other year, to visit our son and family). Even though it is very elegant, in an old-fashioned, European way, kids are welcome (and ours behaved accordingly) and besides to well-dressed ladies and gentlemen, we saw people dressed very casually, it is California, after all... The food was, as usual, excellent (great steak) except for the pasta which was over-salty and the kids didn't like (we took a doggy-bag). The service was correct - not too friendly, as befits French restaurants. Hopefully, we'll come again in due time. Valet parking is a mere $3.50

So, I love French food and I love an experience. I really love Vichyssoise and seek it out everywhere I go. Saw that Taix features a warm potato and leek soup on Saturdays. It is Saturday and here I am, having just consumed an entire TUREEN of the stuff. My dear waiter even put it in the wine cooler to make it a “cold” vichyssoise for me. Didn’t work, but it didn’t matter. I enjoyed every drop. Mussels were delicious as well. And he suggested a lovely Chardonnay to complete my feast. The vibe is old school, for sure. Dined in the dark wood bar area. So quiet and perfect for a solo lunch. Thank you Taix for being who you are and I will dine here every time I come to LA. I promise.

I'm a French teacher who brought his students to have a classic French lunch after visiting the Getty. This place has all of the quintessential French dishes one would expect and the hospitality was greatly appreciated. My intermediate level French students were able to order in French and they tried a variety of dishes from Ratatouille to escargot. It was a joy for me to see them embrace a new culture outside of the classroom. I hope to repeat this experience soon and would encourage other French teachers to include this place as an authentic spot if you can't afford the trip to Paris. Merci mille fois!

They have all the classics here, from mussels to duck a l'orange, and frog legs to cassoulet, and, of course desserts. The food is competently done and professionally served. The place, I must note, is a bit dark and in need of paint. But a lot is forgiven for such an iconic restaurant. So, I do recommend it.

I had not been to Taix for many years, but plus ça change, it’s still the same old school French charmer. I love the darkish atmosphere and the food is still very good, with healthy portion sizes. We had a few appetizers which were superb: a Chef Appetizer of large succulent scallops and a plate of escargots. Both were really good and the escargot garlicky sauce was as French as it could be. For mains, we had Chilean sea bass over a nice bed of sweet potato puree, a Saturday special Duck à l’Orange, and Roast Chicken. Everything was super tasty and my brother salivated over the Duck à l’Orange. They have an especially good add-on to main entrees for only $5 which includes a soup and a salad, so why not? The soup was a light potato leek and was superb. There was a choice of salads. By the time we finished our meals, we were sadly too full to try any of their desserts. It was nice to return to Taix after a number of years. We will certainly return.

We have driven by this restaurant many times and had to stop by. I think by far the bar was the best place to be. It was quite lively. We enjoyed the French onion soup, iceberg salad, burgers and ribs. Good quick service. Old school style.
