In terms of breakfast food, THIS IS IT. I am a very tough customer and never gave a restaurant 5 stars before. I've eaten at Nickel for years. Food is consistently delicious and reasonably priced. Don't miss it of you are in the area.

Great breakfast is served here, expect a waiting line but it is worth it. Prices are fairly high and service is great. In my opinion the place needs a facelift. Menu variety is good.Photos attached

It may be in downtown L..A. but the retro ambiance and food is great! Lots of funky old stuff to look at, comfort food plus more.

I was a solo diner on a wednesday night. Wednesday night is fried chicken night. Delicious and fairly priced. It was not busy at about 6:30 pm but was starting to pick-up as I was leaving. The owner is very pleasant and made a point to see if I was satisfied. Later this month (August 2016) they will be close... More

Excellent food, especially the donuts. Lovely atmosphere and the staff were friendly. Downtown LA is really getting to be a nice place to spend a weekend and to have brunch.

My husband and I came here for dinner after a book signing at a a nearby bookstore. We thought the food was delicious, although a little pricey considering the casual atmosphere. Although we were nearly the last customers, we did not feel rushed and even ordered dessert - and yum - definitely treat yourself to one of their house specials!

While visiting LA we asked our hosts to take us to a traditional American style diner. This place rightly belongs on the top 10 diner list! Massive portions, friendly staff + atmosphere. Endless coffees and great pancakes! Highly recommended, we came back again!

This was a fairly good place. Not bad but not that good either. Took a burger with fries and was pleased with the food. We also tried the donuts cause of the other reviews which has praised them to the heavens. But i don't know. They were not what i expected and not in the good way. Ended with me... More

We went to Nickel Diner as part of a DDD food tour. The food itself was fine - nothing to write home about. I had a pulled pork hash and my boyfriend had a corned beef hash. We both found our meals to be a bit over seasoned (the corned beef was too sour, the pulled pork had a bit... More

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
