We're not coming back until the bar wait list is gone and the bar is back to full capacity, signalling that The Grill has reemerged from its COVID slump. The bar used to be the center of this iconic treasure, with Silicon Valley movers, cougars,...gold diggers, and just regular folk happily mingling and having a great time. It was the best show in town! But the bar restrictions have neutered this unique scene, making The Grill just another pricey steak place. If you like your dining experience to be fun like we do, there are way better alternatives right now with outdoor seating on Main Street, or Castro Street in Mountain View, or Murphy Street in Sunnyvale, or Laurel Street in San Carlos, etc. You don't have to settle for boring. Hopefully The Grill will find its way back to its former glory soon, get rid of the bar wait list, and the good times will roll once more! Once this happens we'll be back, but not before. Meanwhile, The Grill's small but excellent menu remains strong. The Hawaiian Rib Eye and Ribs are our favorites. The Caesar and kale salads are great as well. Sadly, Porsche appears to be the only long-time bartender to still be there. She is wonderful, as ever. And the martinis are the best in the Silicon Valley! Here's hoping The Grill will find its way back soon.More

The manager Ericka was a complete passive aggressive and disrespectful, excuse for management I have ever came across. I have never met anyone with such low regard for a potential all employee . Not sure if it was due to me being black or her...having a bad day but she has serious issues . Do not recommend anyone coming here .More

Let's get some perspective. This is four star relative to other, similar fine dining establishments. The potential is there for five stars but some details would have to be worked out first. So here's the breakdown. What we liked: The food. It was perfect. Well...prepared, flavorful, inspired and yet simple. We had the prime steak and the salmon. We each had phenomenal Caesar salads. The skillet cornbread is so good that we had to restrain ourselves from ordering a second one. We liked our server, she was attentive without hovering, and spot on when it came to details. What needs work: Presentation. The steak comes with mashed potatoes. Our reservation was for 6:30 PM, so not too early and not too late. Certainly not busy (COVID and all), so just HOW could they not have mashed potatoes prepared? Again, our server was on it, she offered a substitute side dish (did the cucumber salad, which was good), but that's a glaring error when it comes to presentation. (The potatoes arrived at the end of the meal, and they were delicious). What we didn't like - the table where we were seated was near the fireplace and should have been nice and warm, but for some reason it was drafty. The Bay Area is experiencing UNUSUALLY cold nights this week, so we were FREEZING during our meal. We left our coats on, but were still cold. Final thoughts, prices were high, but this is Los Altos, and the food is good, but when I do drop $165 for a meal, everything should be flawless. I would go back, and I would try other menu items ... but that steak will be calling my name for a long time.More

Came with 3 friends for dinner at 4:30. They only have 5 tables for outdoor dining and take no reservations . All tables were full and we had to sit in the semi outdoor bar tables for an hour to wait. While there, we had...wine and a fabulous appetizer that was 1/2 guacamole and one half jalapeño and cheese. At 5:40, we were seated. Service was excellent. I had the tri tip and Cesar salad. ($29) The tri tip was perfect! The Cesar salad was made from kale, corn and big corn bread croutons. It was drenched in salad dressing, way too much! Others had chicken or chicken/rib combo. Overall, very goodMore

The cheeseburger and whipped potatoes were great. But if you order the Caesar, be forewarned that it comes with kale and not romaine, like it or not. No where on the menu does it mention kale in the Caesar. I called and talked to the...manager and she just said that's how they do it and they don't list all in ingredients on the menu. Would have been a higher grade if I had known about the kale or if the manager had been a little sympathetic.More

While the Los Altos Grill is part of the Hillstone restaurant chain (and with a menu that is 90% the same), this is still a favorite of ours for dinner. The food and staff are consistent in making the evening fabulous. Make sure to make...a reservation, as this place fills up starting when the doors open at 5pm!More

We have ordered the French dip as we make a habit of ordering that each time we go to a Houston's Restaurant. Our first order came out COLD (meaning the meat was Cold to the touch). The only thing hot was the bun and the...au-jus. They took it back and brought another. Just above room temp. this time. Then we were told if they were to heat it it would not be rare but well done. So be it - I like food hot that is supposed to be served hot. The meat was a bit fattier than other Houston related restaurants. The corn bread is VERY GOOD. Good thing we ordered it as it took a bit to get the French dip right. 1 French dip sandwich (split) - 1 order of corn bread - 2 wines (each) - over $100 - pricey. Salads looked GREAT and all the locals were ordering them - wish we had - you might want to try them!More

We try to patronize local restaurants when we go out, so when looking for an anniversary dinner restaurant, decided to make reservations at Los Altos Bar and Grill. We had not been there for quite a while, and when we dropped by on previous occassions,...there was always a long wait, so we'd try something else on State or Main. They also serve dinner at the bar, so that is an option too. We arrived a bit early for our 7pm reservation on a weeknight and were told our table wasn't ready yet. We waited for a few minutes -- past 7pm, and were shown to our table. While we waited we were asked if we'd been helped. So definitely helpful service. After we were seated, we were comp'd a flute of champagne for our anniversary -- nice! We noticed the cornbread mentioned in reviews and ordered. This was a slight disappointment -- dryer than we expected, flavor was good. The grill items were fantastic -- cooked to perfection. It isn't smoked, so if you're looking for smoked flavor, this isn't the place. We ordered the pork chops and rib-eye. Dessert was a lime pie with a candle. And, we brought a bottle of wine -- there is a corkage fee. The service was attentive and kept the table cleared. We were happy with dinner and would return.More

We have been here several times and really enjoyed the food and service. This is not the place for a quiet romantic dinner however, as the restaurant is very active and noisy.

We have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years, even when it was Bandera's. We have always enjoyed the food, customer service, the wait staff and the atmosphere. But since 2018, something in this place has changed, and not for the better. The...last 5-6 visits, we have had a negative experiences. The first ones were our take out orders. One order we got home and we were missing a whole entree. I went back to get (10 minute drive each way) and told the person who does take outs, all they said was they were sorry, and I had to wait 15 minutes, and I was not offered a refund or anything. Our next take out order, I'd ordered a whole chicken along with other entrees, and was going to cut up to make my child a quesadilla. Id asked the server if I could get 2 tortillas, Id pay for them too, I wasnt expecting free, and she said she couldnt give me any, that they were needed for their chips and enchiladas and they were limited, and she was condescending to add. Really, for as much as I am paying for 3 entrees (almost $100) you cant give me 2 stupid tortillas??? I then talked to the manager, I just said that this was dissapointing, and all he said was "yeah, sorry" Wow Our next take out, I tried calling twice and got "Los Altos Grill, please hold" then waited 5 minutes EACH time. So I drove down figuring Id save time and find out that they are not doing to go orders on weekends anymore!!!! Wow Back in february I took 3 friends here. We checked in and the hostess said itd be 15-20 minutes. No problem we went to the bar and ordered a drink. I distinctly remember the 2 couples that came in behind us cause I jokingly thought to myself how nice it must be to be rich dudes in your 60's dating very pretty late 20 somethings. while at bar I looked over and saw them getting seated. I went to the hostess and said those people came in after us. She said she called my name but we didnt reply! What?? we were literally 5 feet away at the corner of the bar from the hostess area. This was discrimination for prioritizing rich people over average local yocals. She said she'd sit us next....and it was another 20 minute wait. Then on top of all this, though our waitress did a fine job, a couple of our entrees were luke warm when delivered, and we never got our cornbread. then this last time, just my wife and I went. While waiting one of the hosts walks up to me and says "sorry we ask gentlemen to remove their hats". okay, Ive worn one before but I politely took off. Then after dinner as we walking out, there are 4 men, dressed like they just played golf, all wearing their hats. Wow. I dont know if its cause Los Altos is so Googled out, so much money, but the atmosphere has gotten snobby. I have gotten poor customer service, and bad experiences. I can get once in awhile things may not go well, but when its consecutive, its a pattern. And when the pattern is going downhill, I got to call it as it is, and this restaurant is either only worried about their uber rich clientle, or its management has turned over and are not the same folks that cared about ALL customers. case in point, about 8-9 years ago we had dinner there, and they have live plants on the walls and act as a divider between booths, well we had all these little gnats flying around and landing on our food. We told the manager, who first moved us immediately, redelivered fresh entrees, comped our meal and gave us a $100 gift card. That was almost too much we thought, but that was a reason why we liked this place so much, and ordered in or out at least once a month. Heck, now I couldnt even get 2 tortillas. Sorry LAG, but you lost a regular, and I will be telling other los altos locals (who are not uber rich) about how you have gone down hill.More
