Most larger Long Beach restaurants that have a lot of good reviews are often average, as is the case with Ammatoli. It's a larger restaurant overall which has decent food, but not a place to go if you want very high quality and more interesting...flavors. It's hard to do that in a restaurant in a place like downtown Long Beach that's probably trying to appeal to a large amount of people, so I understand. It's fine, but if you're discerning about your food then it doesn't measure up. The flavors were more standard and underwhelming compared to others I've been to that are smaller and more dedicated to richer flavors -- it's rather generic tasting, which again makes sense given the location, etc. The service was good. It's more of a tourist-y atmosphere, which again is fine but not our party of four's cup of tea. We don't know Long Beach well enough to recommend other Middle Eastern restaurants that are better, but in the L.A. area there are plenty.More

Good prices, lots of choices, very tasty food, friendly service. We really enjoyed our lunch and will certainly be back.

I've always liked this place and have recommend it to people or have taken guests here pre pandemic. The food, atmosphere and service are great. Good choices of wines too. I've recently started ordering food for pick up. They've done a great job with accommodating...and complying with the new sets of Covid regulations. You can tell they're trying to do their best. They understand that even the simple act of picking up an order can be a hassle and they seem to try to make sure that the whole process is stress-free for the customer. Their site is very user friendly and if you have special instructions for your orders, they don't miss any of it. Saif is friendly, great to deal with and gets the job done. Some neighbors who were aware of our love for Mediterranean dishes, invited us to experience this gem of a place in downtown Long Beach. We started with a bottle of Lebanese red wine and appetizers of hummus and baba ghannouj. All excellent. Their Mixed Grill...Plate with 3 skewers of kebabs of your own choosing was definitely huge and great. We also liked their Grilled Chicken Kebab Wrap and their Musakhan Chicken Roll. The waiters were very attentive and cordial. We will definitely return to this eatery.More

I ordered the $24+ lamb kabob which I couldn't eat as they were almost raw. I said something but I was ignored. A $4 coke and only one refill. Lousy service but I was alone. I sure miss Kafe Neo. I will not go back...to this place.More

Don’t go past this place for Mediterranean cuisine. It’s well priced and delicious. A gem in Long Beach.

An excellent addition to the downtown mix of restaurants! Don’t be fooled by the appearance (looks like a casual take-out place), but they have waiter service, good beers on tap and incredible food at very reasonable prices. This was probably THE best babaganoush I’ve ever...had, and another appetizer (Faul dip I believe) was also very fresh and tasty. Our mains (Gyro wrap, Sheppard Salad, and Falafel Wrap) were all highly recommendable. There might be a temptation to order too much food because everything sounds so good and the prices are low. We ate with someone who had previously eaten here and learned from his past mistakes, but consider yourself forewarned—their servings are large!More

I read about Ammatoli being one of the Top New Places in Long Beach, and I also saw an article in the LB Biz Journal. I said to myself, "What am I missing out on?". Ammatoli is on 3rd near Long Beach Blvd in DTLB....I ordered the lunch special chicken kebab w/ rice $12.95 inc two sides (I chose fries & salad). In addition to kebab, Ammatoli offers 1/2 chicken plate, gyro plate and a shawarma plate (all about $13.95). First of all, the hummus was excellent. It was creamy & garlicky. In addition, it had some chickpeas on top. On the other hand, the pita bread was a bit hard although it was warmed: 5 Stars for the hummus, 3 Stars for the pita. Secondarily, the items on the kebab plate were mixed. While the chicken was moist, it could have been seasoned better. Additionally, the price for one kebab is high vs Panini Kabob Grill: 3 Stars. Conversely, the fries were really good and went well w/ the garlic sauce: 4 Stars. I couldn't finish the rice, but it was just okay as was the salad: Both 3 Stars. Regarding the ambiance, its a casual place where you order at the counter. Nonetheless, it has a clean, warm feeling to it: 4 Stars. Likewise, the service was friendly and attentive. The food came out quickly, and any special requests were handled w/ no issues: 4 Stars. I'd like to return and try some other items. However, I will bring someone with me to help me eat the free hummus. Its a big portion!More
