We stood masked in line at few moments after 11:00am on the Friday before Memorial Day, waiting to place our order. Most of the outdoor tables were occupied so we headed to an indoor table with our order number sign. We had each ordered the...ham and Brie baguette and 1 Coke and 1 lemonade. We ordered the baguettes to be heated. They were delivered to us at the table and were larger than we expected but they were warm, gooey, and delicious. We almost felt like we were in Europe and happy to be - tho it would have been more pleasant if we hadn't had to wear masks. No problem there, just the thought that we would like to get back to the old "normal!"More

I work as a bus driver for a nursing home in Ohio 2447.7 miles from Larkspur CA. One of our 91 year old residents received a Christmas Gift of a Panettone. It was sent to our facility, but our resident was hospitalized so understandably by...the time she was released and physically able to open the box the item was moldy. While that in and of itself is no surprise, the treatment I received from their customer service was absolutely was appalling. My first call was dispatched to someone who explained that as a small family owned business it was unlikely they would mail our resident a replacement. She suggested the resident and I split the cost but stated she would pass on the message. After 1 week and no return call, I called back and got someone who actually stated it would be “dumb” (exact word) to mail the same product - since I could not guarantee the resident would not be rehospitalized. In the end she agreed to send her some biscotti - and while I agree that won’t perish, I’m not sure a 91 with her own teeth will have an easy time enjoying biscotti. As I tried to thank the woman for doing the right thing, SHE HUNG UP ON ME!More

It sounds like some of the reviewers are a bit jaded, and who can help that of people who live in the middle of one of the most beautiful places on earth, the North Bay? We were told about this place by our wonderful Italian...teacher, Ada Nourse, whose joy for life was unparalleled. When we walked into Rulli, we didn’t know what to expect, but we knew it would be a treat! And it was. The smell of the freshest coffee mingles with the pastries just baked and placed temptingly in their case, and the chocolates — it all added up to a memory I will never forget. Don’t EXPECT, as in entitlement — just go, breathe in deeply and enjoy!More

meh- I mean it's Larkspur - trying to be Italian- catering to mostly tourists/a few regular customers and mostly an older population- Equator just down the road has better coffee IMHO- but the pastries are good here.

My wife and I have visited Rulli several times over the years, and while their selection is still lovely, the expectations of high quality that their atmosphere seems to promise just isn’t fulfilled too much of the time. Today we went for a couple of...pastries and a pot of tea. The pastries were good, but no better than a ‘7’ out of ‘10’, and the tea had the distinct flavor of chlorinated tap water. What should have been a treat ended up being just an ‘eh’. They should do better.More

The service was so bad that I don't really remember the food. It looked great and had good reviews, so we had high hopes. One of the servers behind the counter was truly terrible. Hopefully she has received significant training or been fired - she...seemed very entitled and clueless about service. They also seemed to be out of a critical breakfast item like orange juice or coffee or something. The whole experience was weird. To be fair, I would probably give them another chance. I can't believe the place is as bad as it was that day. Larkspur has higher standards.More

It is attractive and I believe a local landmark. However, the coffee is just average and as I recall, the desserts or pastries are over priced. To be fair, I haven't eaten much there over the years. I think it is worth walking through if...enjoying Larkspur 'downtown' - which is quaint.More

Wonderful traditional European coffee house. Fabulous pastries. Civilized atmosphere. My favorite to take home is the panatone Genoese.

Second year in a row that they can’t seem to handle Holiday orders. Online site primitive at best and emails and telephone calls not returned until after business closes for the day. Hard to accept assurances from office manager that your Christmas order will be...received on time when website says order is still processing on December 21st when order placed mid November. Maybe they are on Italian schedule and Christmas translates Little Christmas, January 6th; however, that was neither my intent or order. Must be noted that they take no responsibility once it gets into hands of USPS and UPS, but fail to accept responsibility to get to shipper!More

It's a Thanksgiving tradition in our home to always order a mid-size pumpkin tart (pie) from Emporio Rulli for years now. We call in the order and pick it up a few days before the big event. It's just "to die for" as they say....We've never been disappointed. While there on this visit, it was around lunch time and I had not had breakfast. So, I stopped in the café and ordered their "Favorito" panini and a raspberry bombolini. I have to say that the staff behind the counter were proactive about my order. The person in front of me also had ordered the same panini, but was initially told they were "out". I then spoke up and said that was what I was going to order as well. One of the staff overheard me and then went out of their way to ensure we both had the paninis. It was fairly quickly served at my table, along with the bombolini. I know it's a strange combination, but that's what happens when you are very hungry and order at the last minute. Both the panini and bombolini were delicious. As I was about to depart, another staff member asked if I would like a bag to put everything in. I had the pumpkin tart as well. I said yes, and she immediately presented me with a nice Rulli paper bag. Now, that's service. I realize others may have different experiences with service, but this was mine. I highly recommend the pumpkin tart or whatever delights you in the bakery. Then, stop and have a quick bite or coffee in the café. Nothing fancy, but still good.More

This was my first time going for breakfast, but I had been here many times before. In the past I had found the service to be somewhat indifferent, but this time it was downright unfriendly. We came in and tried to get a prosciutto and...cheese sandwich (called the Milanese on their menu). We were impatiently told they don't do that any more (then why have it on the menu?). So we looked at their tortes, there were 4 different kinds, all unmarked. I asked what was in them and continued to get exasperated responses (not that I was holding up a line, there was nobody else in line there). I can't tell the ingredients of an item by looking at it. How about a small sign telling you what it is - is that too much effort? When we finally got the food (it sat in the panini press for a very long time) it was basically thrown on a plate (you can see the photo of how messy it looks). The teacup was also dirty (see photo). It's a beautiful place that promotes "a taste of Italy at your doorstep". I have been in Italy many times, and was never served with such impatience and unhappiness, or on dirty dishes. If you don't like your job, please don't take it out on your customers! I imagine the operating costs are pretty high there - why waste the money to provide a bad customer experience? How about a little hospitality, or at least less unhappiness and resentment.More
