More than sushi

My husband and I don't eat sushi, but we come here for the other offerings that are excellent. They have shrimp and vegetable tempura that's very, very good -- lightly breaded, not greasy and I love their miso soup. Located next to Whole Foods in a shopping center, Blue Gingko is a small Japanese restaurant featuring innovative, fresh sushi. Went for lunch and asked the waitress to select three sushi rolls (about $16 each) for our party of two. She told us the ingredients-scallops, shrimp, avocado, salmon, roe, etc. We gave her the “okay” and we loved every bite.... More

I think they have the best sushi and sake, but the place is tiny and crowded and no matter if it's busy or not they have the worst service in town. With a line of people waiting for tables I spent 20 minutes trying to get a check. They have about 8-9 tables inside and the sushi bar seats about... More

Blue Gingko has very fresh fish and the preparations are inventive and authentic. There are generally some great specials but also the traditional stuff is there as well. Try the Mita Roll, the Volcano Roll in particular. We also love the Tuna Poke and their fresh Hamachi. There is some outside seating to supplement a fairly small dining room inside.... More

the lineup out the door around mealtimes tells the story. the food here is fresh and tasty, appealing to both the eye and stomach - promptly served with the sort of attentive service you'd like all restaurants to have. it does get crowded at peak times.

My boss took us there for lunch. Once again I ordered the sushi lunch special. The chef did a wonder job on my lunch. For sure I would go there when I think of Japanese food.

This was a nice surprise as it's located in a strip mall in downtown Lafayette. Of course, in Lafayette this means it's still incredibly elegant! The sushi menu was big enough and they had some nice preparations. Not much liquor other than Japanese beer and saki. The fish was fresh and the poke presentation was unique.

Went her for dinner with a friend, diners wait by the door, and grab the first table that frees up. We ordered sushi, the fish was fresh, the sake was very bitter, a side of broccoli was over cooked, the sushi was good not great. Portions were small, and prices were a bit high for Lafayette. Service was slow, but... More

Enjoyed it very much. Very tasty food severed very quickly. Did not like as much as some SF neighborhood Japanese restaurants. Did not try the Sushi.

We've been going here for sushi for the past 4+ years. They always have a nice selection of fish, thoughtfully prepared, with very attentive service. The only problem is that it is very popular and the restaurant is on the small side so there is usually a wait. If diners are paying attention, they eat, pay, and leave; however, there... More
