Closed... and another French Bistro opened immediately. Hopefully it is as good and will last. City seems to have relaxed its parking rules and allows 2 restaurants with a very small parking lot... but other businesses are not open at night.

Suprised by closing. One of the few French restaurants in the area. Had a great outdoor area, good food and wine list.

Chevalier is a special occasion restaurant (birthday, New Years, anniversaries, Christmas, and all other special occasions). This is an expensive but fine experience, with classic French cuisines and waiters. Take your time and you will enjoy a quick trip to France.

The food is out of this world, really excellent. The restaurant is really small and sitting is not very comfortable if you are a tall person. It is expensive though, and unfortunately they are closing next week.

Whenever I think of Frech food, I go to Chevalier. This time I had my usual Escargot and I was introduced to the Foie Gras special. It was excellent but it was pricy. However with excellent service I felt it was worthy.

One food server, one person in the kitchen makes for very slow dining experience as in 2 1/2 hours. French onion soup was poor, consisting of weak broth. Portions small but adequate. Poor service simply because one food server could not adequately assist the number of patrons in the restaurant. When spending around $100 pp, expect far better quality, preparation... More

Restaurant is very small, poorly decorated, a lot of table are in the back yard along the fence with some bees flying above your head. The staff is very friendly, famous Philippe Chevalier greets customers, and charms you with a smile. The prices are for wealthy people. Some specials-like filet minion with tax and gratuities costs around $85.00, tomato salad... More

What a pleasant surprise. Despite living in the east bay for years yet had yet to visit this terrific little restaurant. The steak tartar is excellent, prepared table side. Unique and special is the squash blossom beignet appetizer; truly visually impressive and a real treat. Main courses included the flat iron steak with pommes point neuf and a wonderful mushroom... This is an upscale French restaurant. The food is tasty. The people who work here are top notch. If you're willing to pay the high price it is a lovely place for a night out.

This was our second time at Chevalier, and was as good as the first time. We celebrated a birthday with a group of nine. Service and food were excellent. It is pricey but you get a very memorable experience.
