lack of flexibility from the manager ensured we won't be going back

we had a 3:15 rez due to a planned event after and upon arriving we were told that the only option was to sit at the bar or high top tables and enjoy the happy hour menu. as a foursome of seniors this wasn't appealing...so only other option offered was to sit at a regular table and wait till 4 to order from the dinner menu. the manager was consulted and needed a bit of a push to allow us to sit at a regular table to even order a drink. hostess was sweet and apologetic and finally offered us the lunch menu. service a bit slow initially (maybe we were troublemakers) but once ordered all good. Food was pretty good but not outstanding. thanks to initial experience at arrival we probably won't be rushing back.More

Busy Place

Have been to the Grill On Main twice and both times left disappointed. The place is busy and VERY noisy if you take an inside table. The bar attracts a large crowd, which is great for their business, but a large bar crowd makes for...noise. That coupled with a low celling, well! This past trip to the Grill on Main my wife made a reservation and requested a patio table. We arrived and the hostess said a couple of minutes while we clear a table. After 15 minutes I ask the same hostess how much longer and her answer was something like it will be quite awhile. I should have ask how long would they have held our 5:30 PM reservation but I did not. At about the 30 minute make my wife inquired how long and got the "...a while..." answer. The hostess offered an inside table and unfortunately(noise, noise) we took the inside table. We knew the outcome would be bad but we had already waited an half hour past our reservation time so we took the inside offer. A major noise mistake but, at least, we were on tack to get food! The hostess was pleasant but not helpful at all. Our server was friendly and efficient.The food is just ok, something I would call pedestrian. Prices not outrageous. Will I ever come back, probably not, but if I do it will surely not be on a Friday or Saturday evening. To many similartype restaurants in the area to put up with the inside noise and the function of seating a customer with a reservation close(within 15 minutes) of their arrival. Again, I did not ask but I seriously doubt The Grill On Main would have held my reservation for more than 15 minutes, even with a phone call.More

Good Choice in "Downtown" La Quinta

This is a reasonably priced, and very popular restaurant (if a little loud). We were happy with our food (the ribs were great, but the German Chocolate cake, which I've been craving for some time, was sublime - fresh and moist). Portion sizes were adequate;...I'm glad I only had a half rack of ribs, and thank goodness my wife was prepared to share the cake. Excellent service for a busy restaurant (Thank you, Alicia!). Would recommend as a good choice in La Quinta.More

Good but not great

Nice atmosphere. Varied menu. Reasonable prices for this expensive town. Good enough service. Salad came with too much dressing and a request to omit one ingredient was ignored. B + overall.

Great menu! Excellent food!

What a great restaurant! The menu options were varied & there were some specials that looked tasty. I had a very good Argentinian Malbec and ordered the Israeli salad with grilled prawns. It was an absolutely delicious salad. The service was very good.

Credit card issue

Food, drink and service were passable, not outstanding. We were 2 couples, split the check 50/50, and both of us added a $20 tip to be consistent, roughly 19%. When I checked my card charges online, the tip was $22, not $20, and my buddy...had the same issue. Obviously the 2 bucks didn't matter, but I hate like hell when a waiter doctors my tip, so we called the restaurant. Some managerial person called me back, gave me a long and totally incomprehensible story about another guest's credit card with same last 4 digits as mine, a $22 tip, etc., etc. Total BS. I suspect a small employee scam. Check you bill and card charge if you go there.More

gave it a second chance and worse than ever..

We gave this place a second chance only because RR RNNR next door was closed. As far as I can tell, there was one server for the entire restaurant......We ordered a Cobb Salad to split...they wanted to charge us $3.50 to split a $17.50 salad....- an uncharge off 20%. We have lunch out several times a week and usually order a salad....This is the first time a restaurant has tried to impose this "fee". It felt like we were being gouged. This is sheer arrogance and not in the best interests of its customers and first rate hospitality. This confirmed that 2 strikes and you're out. Give RD RNNR a try...vibrant, more that 1 server, no uncharges.More

Still great!

When we stay at the Embassy Suites La Quinta, we love to go to the Grill on Main. The food is just delicious and so are the drinks. The staff is so nice and the atmosphere is wonderful.

Wry busy place - great service and food

Very busy place ! We had to wait a bit despite the reservation, which was fine with me…. Very nice welcome and advice by our server Heather, food followed quickly. Excellent calamari and superbe Hamburgers, crispy French fries and a great selection of beer and...wine by the glass. A very pleasant dinner !More

Fun dinner

Wonderful outside Bistro style restaurant overlooking LA Quinta Old Town Village. New York steak prepared just as requested. Super tender and tasty. Bronzed swordfish a winner, as well as was the accompanying risotto. Cooked to perfection. Only knock is limited wine list. Rose not available....Comfortable seating and nice ambiance. Excellent Service and Good food!

We went to lunch here on a Sunday and had a very nice relaxing time. The service provided by Ramon was excellent. I say that because the level of service we have received at restaurants in general is declining. That is another discussion of course....The manager checked on us to make sure our drinks were full. It was a very professionally run operation for our visit. The salads we ordered were all tasty and the correct temperature. The experience stood out in my mind.More

So disappointing today

We are frequent guests of this restaurant…come here at least once a week. Today, something was way off. The “hostess” could care less that 2 customers with reservations were waiting there while chatting with a server. Refused to report my points to Opentable, as was...as unsmiling as could be. She about chocked when we wanted to move over 1 table to get out of the Sun. It didn’t stop there. Had to ask for water three times..to the same server…three times and it still didn’t register. It’s like everyone who worked there today was pissed off. We will give it one more shot but if it’s the same attitude, I’ll just walk next door. January 24, 12:45 pmMore
