First time at Wong’s Gold Palace, and my absolute last. Our server didn’t know how to handle a party of 10 people, she did not have seem to have a sense of urgency with her tables like all servers should have. She seemed very bothered...and annoyed when we asked to order and asked for refills. The service was so awful and she was very rude to our table and the food was sub-par at minimum. She never came by to pick up dirty plates and we had to end up putting dirty plates on the table next to us. Then it came time for the check where there was confusion, but that’s okay, things can happen with a large party, when I had paid for mine and my partners food which totaled out to be $33, I left $2. I would have left $0 but I don’t believe in leaving $0, so I left $2. She picked up the check after I signed it, looked at me with the stinkiest face and said “only $2?” Truly awful of a server. I highly recommend people to go elsewhere.More

This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in San Diego. It is very old and have been in the same location for many, many years. The food is very good and the drinks are even better.

In the mood for Chinese food. Have driven by many times and eaten here years ago. GREAT experience. Very clean and a large selection. My wife and I had a set meal plus an appetizer to share. Wong's has been closed for months due to a kitchen fire. But hurrah! they're open again! We've called once a month to check on the reopening and were pleasantly surprised they opened two days ago. Took friends with us to celebrate. They both ordered the...family dinner #3. My husband and I had the #6.Just like it used to be: family style, huge portions, and wonderful flavors:) The servers and the owner are so nice. With my wife and our favorite couple tried out Wong's using dinner coupons. We've been back 3-4 times now. What a feast! We'll always go back - coupon or not. Hard to find an old style Chinese restaurant since Gen Lai Sen closed on Park...Blvd. Attentive service.More

We've been looking for a good Chinese restaurant in East County and gave Golden Palace a try last night. Here's what we liked: it was very quiet and it was clean. The waitress was so sweet and so nice that it helped overcome our lack...of enthusiasm about the food. We tried three dishes and all were really bland. Normally we take left-overs home but not last night. The understated decor, sort of 1950-60's, reflected the overall experience. It was good enough to be rated average but really not good enough to return.More

I was very appréhensive about the food that was to come. This is very old style Chinese food. The lady that helped us was really nice and very patient. The food was very fresh and clean. The salted chicken wings tasted good but were slightly...dry. The Chinese chicken salad was actually more like a regular salad in an American restaurant. It had white rice noodles underneath. I will say the salad ingrédients were very fresh. They made the beef and Chinese peas adding garlic and lots of onions for us. Again very fresh ingredients. Nothing negative just old style. Wong's Golden Palace is my favorite Chinese restaurant in San Diego. They are a family owed business who have been serving La Mesa for almost 50 years.They have an extensive menu with delicious Cantonese, Mandarin and Szechuan dishes, and they also have a full bar....The servers are always friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is very pleasant, with traditional Chinese decorations. Be sure to visit the koi pond!More

We have been frequently Wong's for many years. We found the service to be exceptional, and the quality of the food to be the best we have found. The food is fresh and authentic. We love that their egg drop soup is the true to...the original thin broth, rather than the thick, cornstarch infused type many restaurants serve. In the over 11 years we have been going there, we have found the quality of the food, the service and the prices consistent. We have tried about 80% of the menu, and have never been disappointed. Everybody we have ever taken there (family, friends, out of state guests) has been very impressed with the food, and it's on their list of places to go when they return! If you aren't impressed with Wong's, then we can only assume that you consider Panda Express "real" Chinese food. It is the ONLY Chinese restaurant our family will dine at.More

This has been a frequent stop when we come to the San Diego area for many years ! However this is the last time that we will dine at Wong's. The quality of the food has suffered greatly since the last time we visited. The...prices have greatly increased,and the food has decreased in flavor and quality. We also found the restaurant to be a lot messier than in the past.More

Won's has been there for over 50 years.I used to go there with my grandma and it hasn't changed a bit.To sit in is an experience with the traditional Chinese décor and music.You always get a ton of tasty food and the prices are great.

This is a restaurant we frequent on our trips to San Diego. Our must have, is their War WonTon soup. We order this every time along with another dish on the menu. So far we have not been disappointed. Egg rolls are vegetarian and the...sweet and sour sauce is great. The decor could be updated and the window coverings are a bit shabby. Waitresses are all friendly once you get to know them.More
