So I’m not sure if the dining room was stripped due to Covid or if it always looks like this but it looks like you’re dining in a school cafeteria - basically no ambience whatsoever, just tables on a bare floor in a room. Probably...would be less noticeable if there was a view, but alas, it was a foggy night so no relief there.
Turning to food, the Caesar salad was fine (I know, my fault for ordering a Caesar but it was her birthday and that’s what she wanted), no better or worse than any other you’ve ever had. On to the mains - she had the seafood cassoulet for $29; 5 mussels, a couple of medium shrimp, a few pieces of calamari and a mountain of beans covered in breadcrumbs. Way overpriced for the dish, which for that price should have been awash in seafood.
I had the steelhead trout which was the star of the evening - nice portion, cooked perfectly with cracking skin. Delicious. Was served over toasted couscous with zucchini and cippoline onions, all of which were both overcooked and under seasoned.
Lastly, they have a phenomenal wine list (with phenomenal mark ups to match), which was great but, again, great wines in Denny’s ambiance is jarring.
All said, for $200 for two (including tip) I expect a really good meal at a nice place and, unfortunately, this wasn’t that.More
