Family run business (without the pathological need to tell so all the time) Tried out and tested recipes. Sure - the waitress forgot our order of a guaca mehicana, and no formal excuse was issued but hey - once we adressed the issue it landed on the table swiftly so no biggy. Temperature was unbelievably high outside for a couple... More

The location on Indio Blvd is historic. Next to a train track, this small location makes it cozy and special. The people are great. Must have the stuffed pepper appetizer, like nothing I have ever had and it's terrific.

The food always tastes great and freshly made. I have tried other Mexican restaurants nearby and this one is simply the best. The recipies are from the norwest states of México.

Found food to be very ordinary -- the type you find in most small, casual places. Not bad but not worth a return visit for us. The prices were reasonable.

We were fortunate that this gem of an eatery was recommended to us. A no frills excellent restaurant where there is pride of ownnership and the food is to die for. If you're looking for fake Mexican food with the wild colors on the walls and fake parrots on swings, this ain't it. We tried the local favorite, the stuffed... More

I moved to Rancho Mirage (Palm Springs area) several months ago and stumbled upon El Mexicali completely by chance... And, boy-oh-boy I'm happy I did! If you want really excellent, fresh, home-cooked Mexican food -- i.e. not Americanized Mexican food -- then, look no further. I believe El Mexicali has 3 different locations. This was the first (think it's been... More

We would never have gone here if it were not for a friend's recommendation but so glad we tried it! The shrimp appetizer is very unique and very good. The waitress told us how to prepare it which was good because it really enhanced the flavor. I tried the chicken tostada which came with beans and rice and was very... More

As we pulled up we were unsure if the place was open, pushing the door open we were greeted by signing and a busy place. Well, the door was open, so in we went. Oh boy, so glad we did. Fun place, and wonderful staff served and serenaded the place all night. It was all good. Particularly their shrimp starter.... More

Our Chiles Gueritos are a popular local favorite - shrimp stuffed yellow peppers topped with mayo and soy sauce. Our restaurant offers a unique dining experience that's just like eating at home with family and friends. The "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" of the trains passing by on the train tracks behind us is also something you'll never forget!
