Came here based on TA reviews, and TA people are wrong. The good..cold beer. Chips and salsa was OK. The bad..guacamole dip is way over priced based on the quality. Good size portion, but lacking in flavor. Wife ordered chicken Tacos. Not sure if it...was real chicken as it had no flavor and the texture was strange. I ordered 2 crispy Tacos, which were OK, but the refried pinto beans must have came out of a can...no flavor. All in all lacking in flavor. Service was very good.More

Group ordered their famous shrimp stuffed peppers. I don't like shrimp, but everyone else raved. The guac was delicious! Very good drinks and food. They were busy and service was slow, which seems to the new norm everywhere with staff shortages. Would eat here again...without hesitation!More

We've read the good reviews & have driven by and seen people waiting in line to eat here. Don't believe everything you see or read! We can't believe it could be the same place? It has to be the worst dining experience we'd had in...a long time & very disappointing. We ordered our meals at 7:15 pm & they still had not arrived by 8:15 pm. (the place didn't really look that busy) When we asked the server why we hadn't received our meals, the excuse we were given was 'there was a large party in the back.' When we asked to speak to a manager we were told there wasn't one there. Really? Once our food finally arrived it was the most bland, tasteless Mexican food we've ever eaten...anywhere. The refried beans had absolutely no taste at all. There are too many other good places in the area with much Mexican better food. Try one of those instead!More

Our group of 3 couples was able to grab one of the outdoor tables. Nice evening however be aware the street noise can be significant. Right from the start the meal was off to a good start- warm tortilla chips and a spicy salsa. The...salsa was excellent and had a nice kick, however, it was a little too spicy for some of our group so the waitress brought some milder sauce. Be aware that the portions are generous and also reasonably priced. The house specialty fajitas came with beef chicken and shrimp. I was hungry but after having two bursting tortillas, your choice of corn or flour, I was stuffed. However there was enough left to take some home. An appetizer, soft drinks and 3 mains and 1 deep fried ice cream to share, we couldn’t handle anymore, came to $90 incl tax but w/o tip. Very reasonable. You won’t be disappointed.More

The food and drink here we’re phenomenal. Some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Shared the Seafood Platter with a family member and everything was delicious. Also had chips and guacamole to start and it tasted so fresh. Also would recommend the strawberry...margarita which did not disappoint and was a very decent size. Will definitely return the next time I am in town.More

El Mexicali gets all of the traditional favorites and flavors right. Some of the best chili rellenos EVER. However, the Chili Gueritos are both UNIQUE and WONDERFUL. Whether you are dining on the covered patio or getting carry out they will not disappoint. We were...in the area for two months and ordered takeout at least six times. Simply cannot beat them for traditional food with this one of a kind twist.More

I searched all over the valley for a number of years for a Mexican Restaurant where the food was excellent and consistent. There were some restaurants that would be great one time, and the next time tasted like it came out of a can. The...menu here is extensive, and I have tried most of it over the past several years. Always excellent food, extremely pleasant staff and service. Not overpriced because portions are not only large but excellent quality as well. Cocktails are on the pricey side, but go for the happy hour house margarita. A selection of draft beers are available as well. Just reopened for dine in last week. I highly recommend El Mexicali ii.More

I lived in New Mexico for over 30 years, so I think my standards for Mexican food are very high. El Mexicali was recommended by the staff where we were staying, and I was favorably impressed. From the variety and quality of the margaritas to...quantity of the food, I walked away full and happy. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. I had a combination plate with an enchilada, a taco, and a relleno, and each of them was delicious. Chips with salsa and quacamole before dinner were great appetizers, again well-prepared with a refill on the chips when we ran out.More

First I have to say the service was not there. We got seated ordered then never really saw anyone. It took forever to get the bill. They were not that busy with lots of servers. Some of the food was really good and some not...so good. Not sure if I would go back.More

My wife ordered the #4 combo (taco and chili relleno) and I had the chili Verde with rice and beans. Both meals were outstanding. Service was awesome. Easily recommend Mexicali Cafe II to anyone wanting an outstanding meal.

Mexican food varies greatly across the Southwest. That said, I have learned to expect differences. Linda’s chili relleno was good but my beef enchiladas were roast beef that was not particularly well seasoned and rather bland. The salsa was devoid of tomatoes, onions and cilantro...and more like thick tomato soup with too much chili powder. The chips were homemade and okay. The margaritas were strong but without much lime flavor. Overall our meal was just okay. The restaurant was busy and appeared to be mostly local patrons so it may be the best in town. If I’m back in Indio again I’ll try another restaurant.More

We have visited El Mex on a number of occasions, each time have been very pleased with our lunch or dinner. But we had our grandkids out for a shopping trip and decided to stop and have a snack. We ordered two carni nachos. What...a disappointment. the carni was mostly either fat or grizzle, with the worst cheese ever. Very small portion for $12.00 as we have eaten a good number of nacho plates over the years and this is the worst for quality and quanity. We will go back for the lunches and dinners, but forget the nachos.More
