West Shore Cafe is one of the best restaurants, and our favorite, on Lake Tahoe. The food is fantastic, the view is astonishing, and the service is top notch.
The restaurant is located in the town of Homewood, California. Homewood is seated on the west side of the lake. The town is quiet, scenic and a nice escape from the bustle of Tahoe City or South Tahoe.
We planned our dinner at West Shore Cafe just prior to sunset and actually walked from our lodging, Cedar Crest Cottages. The restaurant has incredible outdoor seating, that juts out to the water like an elegant dock. The tables are nicely spaced and the staff was very warm and inviting. (The restaurant/hotel does host weddings, so check your reservation prior to the visit.)
We started with the scallops, topped with caviar and a lemon/dill cream sauce. They were seared perfect and extremely fresh. Our entrees included the basil halibut and rib eye steak. The halibut had a great miso broth, vibrant snap peas, and a delicious uni butter. Again, seafood is key in Lake Tahoe. The steak was the perfect size and came with grilled napa and this unbelievable black garlic sauce. If you can, you have to try this sauce.
Along with a couple drinks, we were able to enjoy this entire dinner with a view of the grand lake.
To conclude, West Shore Cafe is a must visit if you are in the area of Lake Tahoe.

We made reservations on Open Table in the morning and we were having so much fun at Tahoe Treetop Adventures, we had to call twice and push back our reservation! They were SO accomodating and flexible. We showed up sweaty and dirty from a day on the ropes but we had the most AMAZING table by the water on the grass. We never felt rushed and we drank and laughed and ate and let the kids play on the beach for hours. EVERYTHING was delicious and we ordered three items twice! (The calamari, the poke, and the strawberry remoulade) We always enjoy our dinners here but this one was extra-special in this time of Covid. We felt very safe and socially-distanced and we were able to have such a nice dinner in a beautiful place. Always hard to leave! We will be back!

We have been many times but this particular lunch was average at best. Beautiful location on the lake! Our waitress was not attentive at all. We sat for 1/2 hour before drinks came and 1 1/2 before lunch. Food was average. To be fair, our understanding is it is very difficult to find staff but the prices, service and quality don’t measure up.

We booked the West Shore Cafe for a birthday dinner. When we arrived, we were informed that that our table was not available and that it would be about 15 -20 minutes before we could be seated. We continued to wait in the parking lot but were not updated on the status of our reservation. When we inquired after 15 minutes, the manager finally spoke to us, and he was extremely rude. He did not offer an apology but only complained to us that he could not hurry up tables that they were waiting to finish dinner to clear for us. He kept rudely talking without listening to the point that other staff tried to interrupt him. Although we had made the reservation well in advance and also indicated that it was a birthday dinner, not one person acknowledged and wished us a happy birthday or even apologized for the wait. As it became dark outside, staff disappeared into the restaurant (where it was warmer) and left us in the parking lot. No one came out to give us an update. After forty minutes of waiting, we left as we were completely disgusted with the experience. We are local residents and will not refer anyone here until or unless there is a change in management, the basics of customer services are instituted from the top down, are they able to manage their reservations book. West Shore Cafe is expensive, and for a special occasion, there are plenty of other options in Tahoe if you are seeking good food, good views, and far superior service.

Our family Of 8, 4 adults and 4 children, had lunch at this establishment and have never had such a humiliating horrible experience anywhere; and we travel at least once a month. The manager, Kevin, scolded my husband (as if he were a child) In front of other customers, employees and his own family. My husband thankfully controlled himself and told Kevin to show some manners and not speak to him In such a manner not raise his voice at him; he continued to do so and offended my husband and our family in the process. The issue at hand, we arrived at our table on the deck and the children were mesmerized and amazed by the lake! They were standing at the rail directly in front of our table commenting on what they were seeing, as children do, with laughter and giddiness. This was for no more than 2-3 minutes.
Despite this lack of professionalism and complete rudeness and pretentiousness by Kevin, we decided to stay. We finished lunch and the children asked us if they could go down to the shore and toss some pebbles into the water, we said yes. My three year old happened to throw a pebble and hit the pier. My sister in law warned the children and said it can’t happen again. A waiter named Scott then yelled,
“ NO THATS IT!” And came up to the children via the deck and started to scold them with offensive aggressive words. The children were scared and intimidated when they were perfectly well behaved. I proceeded to come up to the waiter and correct him, telling him the children were all under ten, they are minors and if there is anything that needs to be addressed, it needs to be directed at an adult and not them. He was very pretentious and sarcastic. He claimed our children were out of control when they were perfectly behaved and Had even asked for permission to go to the shore, I informed him of this. He also said the dinner crowd was arriving and that we were disturbing everyone, there was exactly one other table with three ladies, and they had just arrived. Needless to say I knew I was not going to get anywhere with this child. I am going to call JMA properties tomorrow and file a complaint as well as complete every review possible letting people know how despicable and reprehensible their treatment of children and families is.

We looked on Opentable and they said there were reservations available at 8:00 on our selected day that required a $200 non-refundable deposit. After talking it over with the wife I made the reservations using my Amex card and thought we were good. We had been on vacation in Tahoe for several days so was several hundred emails behind so didn't look for a confirmation email. When we got there all dressed up there was no reservation and no recourse. Opentable actually said there were tables available at that time but it was all BS. How embarrassing to show up all dressed up and to be told sorry you are not on the list so go home. There is a complete lack of communication between the restaurant and OpenTable and a complete drop of the ball in making the reservation. A total disaster. Do not use OpenTable to make reservations here and I'm not sure how you can avoid the situation we went thru. Just go to Chambers Landing and have better food for a lot less...

We arrived at about 5:00 and sat a table over looking the water. They had some great cocktails for Halloween and we also enjoyed some wine. For dinner my wife had the short ribs and I had the elk, which was cooked perfectly. It was a wonderful evening. Highly recommend and get there for sunset.

Had a great meal from the most tasty calamari appetizer to the perfectly cooked elk steak entree.
Ryan our waiter was not only professional and attentive but had a great personality.
Service was simply excellent!
From the moment we were greeted by Jennifer (a major asset) at the front a lovely tone for the evening was set.
All around things at West Shore Cafe have improved greatly. Can't wait to go back again.

Beautiful views from all the tables on the dock. The menu is simple but all the food was delicious. We sampled the Ahi Poke with wonton crackers, halibut tacos, and slow cooked bbq pork. Each was beautifully presented and flavorful. We did not drink because of our two hour drive home. Most guests arrived by boat - shuttle service was provided from the bouys to the dock.

What could be better than watching a full moon rise over Lake Tahoe while dining on a pier during a balmy August evening? It was nearly perfect. The crab cakes were in a word, awful!. Everything else was awesome. We'll be back!

Long-time Tahoe vacationer; first-time visitor here. Went for the “Wine vs Beer” Summer Music Series (3:00-6:00). Loved the lakeside setting and pier seating! Lunch was pricey: (1) dungeness crabcakes appetizer + (2) beers for close to $50.00 with tip. Enjoyed low-key music on adjoining lawn area with seating (wine, beer, t-shirts available for sale). Will go back for wine + music, or special occasion.

West Shore Cafe is our special treat place for many reasons. When you walk in the building you get a feel of yesteryear Lake Tahoe. The big open ceilings, artwork and views always make me smile. We have spent Christmas Eve with it snowing; 4th of July on the Pier with fireworks...and it is always a memorable experience. The food and service is always stellar and well...you just do not get a better view! We were at a wedding last month and once again for a large group the service was wonderful and the filet mignon for over 100 was to die for! This is a spectacular place if you are planning a wedding! Any way....we are big fans of West Shore Cafe! If it is your first trip to Tahoe....make sure you go!

West Shore Cafe on beautiful Lake Tahoe is a must. Seasonal hours, earns them a 4 star instead of a 5. The menu is always changing as with the Chef's. The current Chef is fantastic!
Can't beat the amazing old Tahoe charm of the building.
