We had the chance to tour the Hilmar Cheese factory. We've been to Tillamook in Oregon and loved it, so this was a go! Great tour!!! Our tour started with lunch of sandwiches and cheese soup- the soup alone was worth it!! Delicious!! The tour...is done inside our bus where the staff come aboard and talk about milk production, processing, cleanliness, testing, and cheese making. We actually drove thru the factory complex. It wad amazing and so informative! Excellent gift shop for different cheeses and cheese and milk oriented gifts. Loved this tour and recommend it for anyone visiting the Modesto CA area.More
I have loved Hilmar Cheese ever since I was a little girl! I don't live there now but every time I go to Hilmar i visit! Delicious cheese and desserts. You can watch them make cheese sometimes and there are things for kids to do...upstairs I think.More
I have put this on my list as a regular stop when I am making the drive to Southern California. The food was so good. I had the bacon and vintage sandwich and cheese soup. My husband had the piglet burger. We both loved what...we got. Good prices and friendly service made this place an A+ for me!More
I really enjoy Christmas time there... they really decorate it and have a large selection of gifts to buy, including cheese packages and other items to buy for gifts, They also, have great lunches...
Was on a bus trip to the Cheese Center. Had a great tour and finished with a catered lunch that was wonderful. Everything was fresh. They make their own Cheese chowder that is out of this world. Worth the trip and then the shopping was...good too. Everyone friendly and helpful.More
The website offered a lot but we weren’t that impressed. Had a good area and description of how cheese is processed. Was a private event upstairs so we couldn’t go there. The cheese samples were really good and the lemon cheese cake was delicious.
My husband and I both ordered the ham and cheese sandwich on a pretzel roll. I can't remember what they called it but it was really good. The cashier was very friendly and of course, I left with a variety of cheeses too.
We bragged to our Texas relatives about the Cheese Company but today, when we took them for lunch there, it was a little bit of a disappointment. As usual, the facility was delightful, but our dining experience didn’t go well. First, service was slow, although...there weren’t that many people in the place. Two, there was confusion about our salads, and we ended up short one salad (we asked several times, but the gentleman behind the counter insisted that we had received what we had ordered). Third, I asked for wheat bread and received white. Hopefully this was a one time experience and next time will be better.More
Stop and have a toasted cheese sandwich with soup followed with killer good ice cream. It’s a good day.
We took the grandkids here for the ice cream tour. It was really good. They had different stations for the kids to learn stuff about cows and cheese making. Then they got to shake and make ice cream. We also had lunch a nice lunch...in the visitor center featuring cheese of course!More
Visited here on the drive from San Fran to Yosemite. We had a turkey and apple sandwich and a bacon with avocado flatbread, both with cheese chowder, which I'd recommend, though my partner's was of a thicker and less pleasant consistency than mine. Took a...longtime to come but was overall was goodMore
We frequently stop at Hilmar Cheese, it is the best cheese available locally. Made right there. The gift shop is interesting and many samples on display to delight your palate. Cute stuff too!
I've been here a few times but don't think I've ever reviewed it. They have a good varitey of lunches to choose from. Many cheeses to pruchase, some from other cheese makers. My favorites are still their very own produced there.
As the title says, what more could you ask for---than good food at a small cafe, cheese samples, attentive service, and a fun gift selection. Before we ate, our tour group even got an informative tour around part of the company's grounds.
