The chowder was good (we shared a bowl). I had the fresh petrale sole and substituted Brussels Sprouts for the purple cauliflower. It was tasty. My husband had a lobster role that he thought was so-so (but he actually didn't know what lobster rolls were). The restaurant was very busy between 3-4 on a Sunday afternoon and we didn't fit... We had the lobster rolls, polenta fries, and cod mid-afternoon. The lobster roll had a generous amount of lobster meat (claw & legs) but unfortunately it was over seasoned and the meat itself had little to no lobster flavor - could it have been the time of year that accounted for that lack of flavor (October), or was it the... I came to Half Moon Bay on a business trip and had been reading about Sam's Chowder House. I sat at a bar table and ordered the appetizer crab cake. I arrived about 6 pm where glasses of wine were half priced - they have a great selection from whites to roses to reds. Crab cakes are quite possibly my... More

Sam's is worth the journey if you are downtown SF. The venue is comfortable, yet beatific views with fire pits for the cool nights. Enjoyed the clam chowder and amazingly fresh Maine lobsters.

A very popular restaurant, with indoor and outdoor seating. The service and food are good, not great but good. Not a "foodie" location, but a fun time to be had.

We arrived in town for an overnight stay and found most of downtown opens at 11 or 12. We couldn't check in to our hotel until 4 so after a stroll on the beach, we had a glass of wine on Sam's patio. Gorgeous views great service. After an uninspired walk through downtown, we checked in to our hotel and... More

We arrived around 2pm for a late lunch. It was still hopping for lunch. Looks like a popular spot. We waited about 20 min for a table near the window. Outside (with heaters) and other seating would have been much more readily available. Great menu. Great and attentive service.

While this place is kind of a touristy restaurant, we were tourists. A friend who lives in the area suggested Sam's, and we were not disappointed. The food was exceptional, service great, and the view from our window table was lovely. Recommend the Fried Artichoke appetizer, as well as the Clam Chowder. My wife and I both had fish entree's... I grew up spending my summers in Maine, and lived there not long ago for 5 years. I know my lobster and have eaten many, many lobster rolls. The one I ate tonight at Sam's Chowder House is, hands down, the best lobster roll I have ever eaten! Before we got to the lobster rolls we had to take in... More
