About
The Historic Miramar Beach Restaurant & Bar has a long and colorful history going back more than 70 years. It was originally designed and built as a Prohibition speakeasy to serve the liquor smuggled into the Bay Area through a drop off point on Miramar Beach. We have kept the historical ambiance and decor of the 1920s including an incomparable collection of photos from the era. With only a frontage road between us and the beautiful Pacific Ocean, we have the number one view and sunset on the Coast side.

Miramar Restaurant is a highly rated restaurant, however our $30 Crab Melts were terrible. The crab was NOT fresh, it smelled and tasted fishy. The bread that it was served on was toasted first and dry. They grilled some crab with some cheese on top...and then put it on the dry bread. We are big crab eaters and understand what a crab sandwich should be, this is not it! I’m guessing that the crab came in a can, as it was dry, stringy, and fishy. We both ended up with intestinal issues. The wait staff, while pleasant, asked how it was. When I replied “so so” he just smiled and moved on without checking to see what was wrong. We’ve eaten here quite a few times over the years, but not again. My first choice from the menu was the Crab Louie, but when I asked if they had a true Louie dressing the waiter said no, it is Thousand Island dressing. For a restaurant in the Bay Area to use Thousand Island for Louie is a big mistake.More

Got salmon and calamari, pretty much everything was tasteless or bland, not to mention the boiled broccoli/greens which contributed also. Essentially it just grilled salmon with a bland vinaigrette and a side of greens. For this price range people should expect *at least* fresh tasty...fish, and some more elaborated side instead of 4 broccolis and a slice of carrot. Also surprised at some of the comments here, it seems most people do not usually know what to expect when ordering seafood. The location is great but they're clearly unable to match it with the quality of the food. I'll skip over the "seafood paella" with chorizo and salmon (we do not expect to be authentic Spanish paella but nobody with a bit of common sense would ever mix chorizo sausage with salmon... unless he wants to just throw random stuff on top of rice). The combination just tells a lot about how little the staff knows about food. If you really like seafood and fish, clearly this is not the place to go.More

Went there tonight on the advice of a friend and we were very impressed. First visit to this area and San Mateo County recently opened up for all types of dining. We sat on the patio under a heater and it was srill cold. Bring...lots of clothes. We split a house salad which was huge. They have Maytag blue cheese dressing which is great. I had steamed mussels in delicious sauce which comes with garlic bread for dipping. The Goddess had Calamari Piccata which was unbelievable. Tender and flavorful with a tasty sauce. Our server was Lili, who is efficient and cheerful. Highly recommended!More

At one time, this was like a destination stop for some really good fish, shellfish and other delectables from the sea. Something has drastically changed, new management possibly or just a change attitudes. Obviously, with Covid, the whole world is different, but preparation of food...and presentation must hold its own course, Miramar Beach Restaurant has lost its way. No matter what day or night, if you are open for business, then put your best foot forward and make your guests feel as if you are grateful to be serving them, this is lacking greatly at this time. The menu is in need of some upgrading, as same old, same old does not get it done, especially at their price point. By far the best item my guests and I enjoyed, was the Seafood Chowder, but if you are sitting 100’ feet from the ocean, then quite possibly you might want to excel at exceptional seafood, with maybe a couple of local spectacular fish specials for guests to enjoy. Just showing up and not showing off your best for guests is boring and unacceptable. Menu is in deep need of revamping, location is incredible.More

Has just reopened with Covid protocols. Lots of room both indoor and out. The dishes that come from the kitchen are a pleasure to the eye and also taste great. We had a stunning view of the ocean from our table. We had their clam...chowder which is top notch. Our other dishes were the Cajun sea food boil which was full of large shrimp, clams and a lobster tail with a red broth which was hot a full of flavor. The Crab melt sandwich was full of fresh crab meat and quite rich.. The place was moving along well and people were served and not rushed. Very good spot and worth the money.More

Food was good. Fish tacos come in a plate of 3, giant burger and excellent fries. Calamari was good but I like it a bit more crispy. The drinks... they were good (lemondrop and Manhattan), up there with the best we've had. The quality was...there. But for 12 bucks we would've liked a bit more quantity. Wine cork in pic for size.More

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch with Pacific Ocean views at Miramar. Service was very good time We enjoyed for our drinks a beer, ice tea, and a cosmopolitan. For our main, my husband had clam chowder and mussels and clams. I had their shrimp pasta....All were very tasty. We took home with us a piece of their yummy chocolate cake.More

The fall is the perfect time to head to the coast for a lovely dinner. With Covid-19 our only option was to sit outdoors so we layered up and had an early dinner. Their clam chowder was a must try and I had the baby...artichoke cakes which were delicious. Light but still filling after clam chowder and bread. My husband had the petrale which was delicate, moist and paired perfectly with our chardonnay. We finished around 8:30 and was pleasantly surprised to hear the piano man playing inside the restaurant. Such a nice, romantic touch. We will definitely return.More

They have an outdoor patio and also fitted out part of their parking lot as outdoor seating, but those were both full so we sat inside. They took our temperature and sat us right by the west-facing window so we had a lovely view of...the sunset as we treated ourselves to fish and chips, artichoke cakes, cheesy garlic bread and the exotic bomba dessert (delicious!) . The tables were well-spaced and the servers kept their masks on and were attentive without hovering. The night we went there was a pianist, which was a nice touch. It felt almost normal!More
