We saw this place online and wanted to stop in while on our way through the area. The parking is across the street, but is small. There is a sit down line and a take away line, so make sure you get in the right...one. Also, some food in the sit down area is not available for take away. I was trying to hear the list being given to the people in front of us but didn’t catch everything. We squeaked in as a table for 2 with no wait, but larger tables of 6 were waiting 40 minutes or so as this is a little fish shack and not a big place. We sat for a bit to start, but our waitress ambled over and had a great, funky attitude like that aunt you go visit when your mom won’t let you do something. We were not ravenously hungry, so we split a big bowl of clam chowder and an order of garlic bread. She was not phased at all and was happy to get it for us. It was huge. Easily two to three people can split that large bowl of chowder and have another dish. It was perfect for us. If you want it a little creamier (like a place we went to in Oregon), take one of the pats of butter from the bread basket and put it on top of the chowder along with some Tabasco. Great stuff and very reasonably priced considering the tourist pricing of the area. I was glad we stopped in. Bathrooms could use some help, but they were turning people in and out fast as they could at the door. I’d be happy to stop in again if I get back here anytime soon.More

Don’t kid yourself, order anything fried. Fish & Chips and fried fish sandwich of the day were flaky and cooked to perfection. WARNING — items come out piping hot so dont dive in right away. Authentic piece of pacific coast life

Haven't been here in years (10+), but it didn't disappoint. Not much has changed except the prices of course and a few less items on the menu. Main entrees were too rich (pricey) for my blood and maybe even a wee bit "overpriced". But I...came here for the Fish and Chips and cheap beer. Place is till retro charming, nothing fancy. Service was really good. We went just when they opened during the week, no wait ~ Bingo! F&C's were FAB. Three huge pieces, tons of fries or coleslaw (we ordered 1 w/each). Fish was light and not greasy at all. Beer special was $2.50 a bottle, Corona no less. Had the Key Lime Pie, it was o.k., but not limey enough for us, but o.k. I would not order it again but try something else. I Will be Back!More

Have seen waterspouts, gulls (of course), covid, and still enjoy this place. The food is very good and very fresh. Lines of people do not deter me or my family. All my children have been here since they were first born. A family tradition that...is still a treat. Planning my 80th birthday dinner here this July. It's my lifetime tradition.More

We loved the casual setting of this restaurant right on the water at the northern-most side of Half Moon Bay. This is a popular spot both for dine-in and take-out, so don't get put off by the wait. You will get an honestly good (mostly...fried) fresh seafood meal with an uncompromised view of the harbor. We ordered the calamari and fish combo (fresh Cod) with coleslaw. It arrived piping hot and delicious. Be prepared to pay extra (this is a pain, really) for sides of tartar sauce, etc. Plus, if you pay by CC, you now will be charged 4% extra (another pain). If you order to-go, they will charge you for the paper products at an extra 4-5%. This is ridiculous. This venue processes a TON of patrons. Stop with the "nickel and diming" and just add to the cost of the food, if you must (which I don't think you need to do). It doesn't feel right. But the food was good. Would we go back? Yes, but we would pay cash, to start. I didn't like all the surprise charges, even though they were small. All the extra charges are annoying. We also dined the next day at "Sam's Chowder House" farther down the coast. Also excellent, all but the chowder, which was not very good. We are from Vermont: we know New England clam chowder. We were in Maine just last week. The seafood at Sam's is excellent, but order the excellent polenta fries, the salmon, the naked lobster roll.More

Yes, it's very busy, but you can just wait at a social distance outside for takeaway. They have indoor and outdoor dining. But, for your money you get a huge amount of seafood that's absolutely great, including huge steak fries in the seafood combos. There...was large groups most of the day, but as the locals said, by 4pm there's rarely any waiting more than 5 minutes for anything.More

Barbara’s Fishtrap was just what my husband and I wanted, a casual place with great seafood! As a bonus, it is right on the bay. We had the fish and chips and a cup of clam chowder. Both were fresh and delicious. All this and...reasonably priced! We highly recommend!More

Loved Barbara’s once again. My husband had the Cajun fish sandwich and gave it a 9. Said it was the best piece of fish he has had in a long time. I had the sole special and it was very good. Love the fresh cole...slaw and the freshly breaded and fried spears of zucchini. Delicious! Also great service. We can’t wait to go back.More

Stopped in on a whim for dinner after a long travel day. So worth it! Great fish n chips, fried shrimp, calamari and scallops. Went back a second time for chowder, more fish n chips and the biggest shrimp sandwich with Monterey Jack that I’ve...ever encountered! All excellent! It’s in the harbor, on the water, so great views! Tip: bring cash or pay a 4% service fee. They do have an atm on-site.More

This is a classic spot right on the water- locals love going here and getting takeout and eating at the tables overlooking the water right nearby. (I have actually never eaten inside the restaurant itself). Particularly love the salmon burger and big steak fries!

I would categorize this restaurant as 'local flavor.' It's not fancy or large but has a great seafood menu that's consistently fresh with generous portions. There's always a line and it's a bit confusing to get on the wait list but the food is worth...the wait!More

If allowed, I would have awarded zero stars for my meal. By far the worst serving of scallops that I have ever had in my life. They were drowning in olive oil and stale garlic. I couldn’t even finish them. Hard to believe that it...was served with coleslaw which was awful as well. I wouldn’t of minded paying the $30 plus tax for a quality meal, but that is not what I received. Luckily, they served sourdough bread which I took with me so I had something to eat on my way home. So buyer beware, you cannot always trust the reviews on TripAdvisor.More

Definitely a dive but food was outstanding. Would go again. Cole slaw , fresh fish so good. We were reluctant at first but are so glad we are there. If ever in area again, will definitely go.

Very good fried seafood and New England Clam Chowder. Not much on ambience and quite a wait if you don't come early, but worth the effort. Some cozy outdoor seating is available if the weather cooperates.
