We went on a walk at Oso Flaco Lake and the Guadalupe Dunes to commemorate Huell Houser. Wonderful time and very meaningful. Part of Huell Houser's visit years ago was to stop by El Tapatio, so we decided to stop there for lunch after the walk. The restaurant is not fancy but the server was very friendly and helpful. He... We stopped here and I had just finished up 3 rounds of chemo so my tastes were askew to say the least. The owner gave me 5 little cups of different red and green sauces to try to see which one I could eat before actually cooking up my order. One of the best Mexican restaurants we've ever eaten at... Was traveling from Monterey to Santa Barbara via Hwy 1, and checked TripAdvisor for a good luncheon choice in Guadalupe. Glad I did. My wife and I had a chicken quesadilla and a steak salad. Outstanding. The grilled steak was perfect - I BBQ a lot at home and mine do not taste as good. And the chicken quesadilla was... More

I went El Tapatio with two very experienced reviewers, my grandsons from Colorado. I had read the very good reviews and was wanting something different. Every dish that we tried was spicy good. The chips and three types of dips were to die for. The staff made us feel very welcome. Most of the other diners were local farmers... The... More

Generally I have been disappointed in the Mexican food offerings along the Central Coast area, but El Tapatio is the REAL DEAL! Having traveled (and eaten) extensively south of the border, I know good cooking. The chile relleno was a nice big fat Pasilla chile stuffed with cheese, and was topped with a delicious sauce. While waiting for our entrees,... More

We ended up at this place for breakfast by pure mishap but thank God we did!! Don't let the decor fool you, it's simple. Their salsas are amazing!!! The food was delicious and authentic (the closest to my mothers home cooking), the tortillas are freshly made, and the service from the owners was attentive and excellent! We'll definitely be back!

Family of 8 sightseeing and so glad we tried this place. We knew it would be good because you can see the food being made. They started with flour and lard...nothing out of a supermarket bag. The chips and salsa are freshly made throughout the day. We had several entrees and shared around the table. All were excellent. Friendly staff,... More

We just stopped for a beer and a snack. We chose the nachos with all the fixings. They were the best nachos we've ever had! We feel confident all items on the menu would be just as awesome. The family who owns this restaurant were all very nice and really made us feel welcome and also feel they truly appreciated... More

The food was some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. The huevos rancheros were perfect and the Carnitas is some of the best I have ever had. I highly recommend eating here.
