Over the past 6 months we've started to frequent Sergio's - after church on Sundays and at least once during the week. The waiters are great, the food always good and we love the atmosphere. Haven't had a bad meal and really enjoy Sergio -...quite the storyteller! We like how he interacts with his customers and greets us. And they take reservations!More

Sergio's was one of the first to start all this hubub about wearing masks. I've had their food. Coronavirus is not the reason their business was failing. Their abysmal menu was. The owners seemed nice enough, but clearly they're trying to spin their own failure...as a government conspiracy. Avoid this place like the plague they're helping spread.More

My friend and I have been waiting to try Sergio's for some time. We are two middle-aged businessmen with homes in Grass Valley. It was "boys night out" so we headed for Sergios. We were warmly met at the door and requested seats at the...end of the bar. We were seated a sufficient distance apart, brought menu's and ordered. We were then approached, by the owner himself Sergio who made amiable small talk and recommended and excellent wine we very much enjoyed. Coming from an Italian family I asked him what part of Italy he was from. I came here from Argentina he replied. I remarked that was quite a coincidence as I have a favorite Italian restaurant in Miami and although the entire staff speaks perfect Italian, not one of them had even been to Italy. "You have quite a great Italian community In Argentina I remarked, Sergio smiled and nodded his head Then what occurred was the most bizarre, and unhinged behavior I have ever experienced from any employee in any restaurant in my life. Sergio, inexplicably and for no reason whatsoever asked "So are you Socialists" This was not a joke. There was a certain menace in his voice so we asked "excuse me, what?" Sergio repeated, "Are you, socialists?" We were dumbfounded. We didn't know what to say. Well, we do get social security and do take advantage of other socially supported programs, police, firemen, sewers, etc, I mean there are socialists programs in this country but we don't consider ourselves socialists" We just were not sure where this was going. Then with real menace, Sergio pulled down his face mask and not two feet from our faces snarled as he gestured toward the mask, "This is one-world government, this is what socialism looks like a global government" OK, so at this point, I knew we were dealing with a full-blown right-wing nut case. I was ready for the Qanaon speech next. I told him to please just go away but he persisted. Just go away I repeated again and again to no avail. Imagine harassing two customers of your own restaurant for absolutely no reason. There had been no trigger regarding politics in any part of our interaction none whatsoever. I asked for the bill promptly paid it and we left. We threw his food in a garbage can and retired to Tofanellis across the street. How could someone radiate that unseemly behavior for absolutely no reason on innocent customers? Then it occurred to me, Sergio, perhaps in his 80's, Italian and living in Argentina .... suddenly it all fit. So if you want a nice Italian meal prepared by an avowed fascist, now you know where to goMore

I have eaten at Sergio's many times over the years, The routinely mediocre food was to a great extent outweighed by a desire to support local downtown restaurants. When California state health officials allowed reopening of restaurants under certain conditions designed to minimize the spread...of corona virus while recognizing the hardship of closure on such businesses, Sergio's started serving again with at best apparent grudging acceptance of safe standards and in some cases simply violating the law. Indoor dining with insufficient spacing, waiters that put on masks but pull them down while shuttling between the illegal and crowded indoor service and customers who are seated outdoors. Apparently nothing is done with the plastic menus as they are brought from table to table. This flouting of simple safety measures and lawful orders is all done even after the city closed the street to facilitate safe outdoor dining. They happily took advantage of the public pce while continuing to use their premises as usual. I will not eat there again, even when life returns to normal.More

I simply adore Sergio’s! In fact, the experience is so pleasant that I found myself meandering in for lunch, happy hour or dinner often. The service is impeccable and I enjoy the salads and pastas.

I've been enjoying Sergio's for more than a decade. Over the years the menu and wine list grew majorly. A move to a spacious new venue with protected front patio was a big improvement. My favorite is the fresh broiled salmon. Very popular are the...romaine salads topped with grilled chicken or fish. The wine list tends toward quality vs quantity. Very attentive service and Sergio is present most of the time.More

We stopped in Grass Valley on our trip across California, and wandered into Sergio's. Big mistake. The restaurant is clean, the staff are friendly, and the piano player was doing fine, even to the extent of playing Pink Floyd songs. But the food.... My rack...of lamb special was 3 chops covered in sickly sweet gloop, with potatoes and massively undercooked vegetables. Raw carrots, raw broccoli, altogether a very unpleasant meal, although the owner did bring me some more cooked veg after overhearing my complaint to the waiter. My wife's veal was dry and tough, and her mash was more potato lumps than mash. It could be a nice venue when it gets competent kitchen staff.More

Excellent food and service. Located right downtown. Great outdoor patio seating and a piano player if you eat indoors. I recommend reservations.
