Very disappointed, made reservations to celebrate 2 Birthdays for a party of 7. Our table was in a back banquet room , no atmosphere like dining in Applebees. the John Dory was very fishy not fresh could not eat it, Onion soup was warm not...hot. Took a long time to get our first cocktail.More

My wife and I met friends of ours Friday evening at 5:30 PM. Keeping in mind that we live in Costa Mesa that drive took approximately 45 minutes at that particular day and time! We arrived perfectly on time and utilized their valet service. I...believe the valet service is free we did tip the gentleman $10 on the way out though. Our friends had reserve seating on the patio. I must say the view was spectacular from the patio! The weather was gorgeous and we truly appreciated the atmosphere there. We open with a round of adult beverages and enjoyed them as we pondered appetizers. I wish I remember all of the beverage names, mine was the ginger old-fashioned and I must say it was superb! As we finished the first round, we ordered our appetizers of meat and cheese platter and the prosciutto wrapped scallops. As our appetizers came out we ordered another round of beverages and I opted for a glass of wine. The meat and cheese platter was picture perfect and delicious but I must say my hat is off to the prosciutto wrapped scallops! Absolutely delicious! The menu at Summit House is solid. My understanding is it does not change very often; how can you go wrong with prime rib steaks and a couple of fish dishes? My wife went with the 7 ounce filet mignon butterfly cut with blue cheese chunks, and I the 10 ounce prime rib. Our friends went with the John Dory gluten free and a filet mignon as described. The entrées were delicious! The prime rib came with cream corn for the table; however, no one else had a bite other than me. My wife raved about her steak, I must say it looked delicious! Our friends did not have a negative word regarding their dishes either. For dessert we opted for the Crème brûlée and our friends the chocolate tort. Both were well presented and delicious! Our server, Maria, was gracious, friendly, and professional! It was obvious she was stretched a bit thin, but she made up for it with her attitude. All and all we enjoyed a very good dinner! I must say that I read on the Michelin guide that Summit House was known for “good cooking”. They did not have a star. Not every restaurant can but I will agree that it was indeed “good cooking”! Not sure if I would drive 45 minutes again to visit.More

We had a wonderful time celebrating our son's birthday at Summit House. Our son was impressed with the prime rib, best he's ever had he said. Because it was his birthday, they surprised him with a slice of cake and candle. Service was excellent. Parking...is easy in their big parking lot. Reservations are a must.More

I have been a regular customer since the summit house opened. My father, booked many of his church functions from the very first day they opened. He was featured in their first newsletter due to his commitment to the restaurant. The customer service has always...been impeccable. However, I have noticed that management has changed over the last few years. And although I have tried to remain a good customer through COVID-19, I had a very bad experience on Christmas Eve. I had ordered a meal for one to be picked up at 7:30 PM. I called about six or 615 to ask if there was a chance I might be able to pick it up a bit early. The hostess, by the name of Kaylee, said no you may not. I was so shocked with her curt response that I just commented thank you OK and hung up. However, I have spent a lot of money in that restaurant in the last 28 years and decided I needed to complain to the manager. I called back and asked for the manager, and was referred to Erin. I explained what happened and she said she was sorry I had that bad experience. Period. We have reached a point in our society, where being rude and thoughtless is acceptable. I am sad to say due to this experience I will be reluctant to continue returning to this restaurant and recommending it as I have in the past. So there are many many restaurants to choose from and those that have excellent customer service will be the ones I continue to return to.More

My wife and I celebrated our 52nd wedding anniversary at the Summit House. As always, it did not disappoint. We ate on the patio...everything was set up for COVID-19 safety. Our server, Michelle, and her team were excellent. They were very attentive to our needs....My wife had the Filet Mignon and I had the John Dory fish. Both were excellent and are recommended. Everything about the evening was excellent...food, service, the view of North Orange County, etc. I highly recommend this restaurant.More

With so many positives and negatives, this may be my hardest review to make so far. The wife and I went there on 10/05/20 for probable the third time. The location on a hill top is magnificent. The restaurant is well appointed in an English...pub style with some beautiful views. The service could not have been better and was all we could ask for. Now, for the tough part of this review, the food. I ordered the John Dorey fish and wish I hadn’t. love seafood and have eaten over 30 different types of fish in my life and have very much enjoyed almost every one of them. This time I made a mistake. The fish was over cooked and dry and I couldn’t eat it. My mistake that I will not make again (stay with the prime rib). The Cottage Cut prime rib was excellent, expensive for what you get and was the thinnest slice of prime rib the wife had ever seen. French onion soup was very good as was the house salad. The cream corn was excellent but the cream spinach was marginal. Will we come back? Sure, but not for a while.More

Order curbside with the expectation of having a delicious meal at the hotel. From the salad to the main entree, it had to be the worst meal in recent memory. Would not recommend this restaurant.

This review is undecided between 3 stars and 4. Server/Service -- 3 stars -- very unpolished. But we noticed that the other server was phenomenal. In fact, the other server even came to help us a few times as ours was nowhere to be seen...for long periods of time, all night long. Food -- MIXED STARS -- John Dory fish -- was really overcooked, tough. Waste of the poor fish :( So, that was like a 2. Prime Rib = excellent! 5.0 for sure. After my fish came out super bad, I just asked for Prime Rib instead, as my wife's was phenomenal. Yorkshire pudding with prime rib = meh. Nothing to be desired. MUCH better at other places we've been to. Spinach -- 5.0 stars! Mashed Potatoes -- 5.0 stars! Side of mac & bone marrow -- meh! Just 2.0 stars. The mac is very boring. Bone Marrow was only 1/4 full of marrow. Would never order that again. Dessert -- ice cream with weird bread stuff and weird round balls inside and really oily "whipped cream" that coated the mouth with thick grease -- 1.0 stars. Just meh. Doesn't work. The only good thing about the dessert was the chocolate sauce (which they didn't put much of, unfortunately). Cocktails -- were both not very cold, and just OK. Nothing to write home about. I'd say 3.0 stars for the cocktails. Blue cheese wedge salad -- Just OK. The dressing is not that great, rather thick and slimy, and on the heavy side... and the blue cheese (or whatever they use) is not that tasty. We will come back, but ONLY for the prime rib... ! The prime rib here is phenomenal. WITH ALL THIS SAID, I can't give only 3.0 stars because the prime rib is phenomenal. But I can't give 5.0 either, because of the details above. So, 4.0 stars it is out of a total of 5.0 possible.More

The Summit House is a favorite restaurant for special occasions! Their service and ambience with piano music is 10 Stars! The little things make a big difference. On our Open Table reservation, I noted that we were celebrating a birthday. On our table was a...special birthday card signed by the staff. Nice touch. Additionally they brought our son a wonderful dessert with a candle. Our entrees included a Caesar salad, filet minon, their specialty prime rib, portobello mushrooms, asparagus, creamed corn, and something that is not on their menu....a Flagship bacon burger. Everything was delicious. We used their valet parking and tipped $3.00. As other reviewers have stated be prepared for fine dining prices. Our bill for 4 adults was $183.00.More

Located high on a hill overlooking Fullerton off Bastanchury Road near the intersection with State College Boulevard, Summit House has long been one of North Orange County’s most popular choices for holiday and special-event meals. The Tudor-style architecture, the feel of an old British country...inn and the classic high-end menu items all add up to an old school elegant dining experience. Like several parties in the restaurant that night, my wife and I were there to celebrate an anniversary. We enjoyed a nice appetizer of artichoke hearts before ordering our entrees. NOTE that if you want a dinner salad, the salads on the menu are entree-sized and should probably be shared. My wife ordered a small cut of prime rib for her entree, which comes with creamed corn, creamed spinach (my wife substituted mashed potatoes) and a large popover of Yorkshire pudding. Once the beef arrives, the server ladles hot jus over any items you specify. Summit House is known for their prime rib and, according to my wife, their reputation is well-deserved. For my entree I opted for John Dory (Summit House’s other signature dish), which is a fish that I’d never heard of. If you look it up, you’ll find it’s a rather odd-looking fish, but it has delicate, flaky and mild-tasting flesh. The fish is coated with panko and toasted macadamia nuts, then pan seared and finally topped with a lemon butter sauce. My entree came with broccolini and smashed purple potatoes, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Since we were celebrating our anniversary, the restaurant treated us to a dessert of profiteroles, firm pastry shells filled with fresh, thick pastry cream. It was a lovely way to end our meal. The prices at the Summit House are very high -- it’s not the sort of place most of us can afford to patronize on a regular basis. However, the classic, well-executed menu, the elegant surroundings, the hilltop view, and the attentive and professional service all add up to a great place to celebrate a special occasion.More

We went for dinner and found people were well dressed. But they seemed an accommodating place that would accept dress shorts.
