This restaurant has been around for decades. My grandma talked about going there in the 50's and i once visited in the 70's so its been tried and true and a neighborhood establishment. We had a family dinner this evening. We ordered three variations of...the tomato chow mien, garlic chicken and golden chicken and an order of egg rolls. The food was all super including the soup served before the entrees. The service is super fast and friendly and we even enjoyed the hot tea with our meal. The building is older like everything else in the area and the bathrooms could use a makeover but the food is outstanding the prices super reasonable. I would go back anytime.More

These have been hard times for us all. With Shelter in Place affecting so many, it has been nice to find familiarity from a place I adore. I was so happy that they were still open to serve me my favorite special chow mien and...lemon chicken. I would've loved to dine in, but I brought home an extra order of egg rolls and golden chicken so that I can enjoy a nice meal with my spouse. I will be keeping this place on my short list of local businesses that I will be supporting during these tough times. There is no doubt that I look forward to seeing this place open, in full capacity, once everything normalizes. Support local, especially a place like this who has been working hard to keep tummies full for generations.More

I have enjoyed going to The Golden for 30+ years. The decor is very nice and the servers are always prompt and friendly...located in the historic Tower District of Fresno...I’m never disappointed.

The “Golden” might have been edible in it’s Golden years but for the last 15 years they have been ripping customers off by being cheap. I quit going 15 years ago when I noticed the food started to taste old. I saw the glowing reviews...and thought I would try it again. Bad mistake. The pork taste old. The chicken taste like it could be rodent. I asked for the special Chow Mein chop suey and it had no chestnuts. This is why I got the stupid dish. When I called to inform them, a rude man informed me, “we don’t put that in dish anymore, customer must ask.” Which was another load of garbage that stunk worse than their food. I said, “ your menu says it has chestnuts, so you are falsely advertising”. He then hung up on me. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Save your hard earned money and spend it somewhere that you will be welcomed and get a quality meal. It’s obvious they have not been inspected in years. The place is filthy. And to top it off, after I bought 27.00 dollars worth of this Hell, they were only able to give me two packets of soy sauce. Pathetic.More

Came in just after noon. Place already started filling up. By 12:30, there was a line trying to get in. Seated right away. 3 of us. (2) ordered lunch specials: Kung Pow Chicken and Beef and Veggies with Fried Noodles (chow mein). Came with egg...flower soup. I ordered something not on the menu. Scrambled eggs and gravy with beef over rice. I am Chinese. Not a whole lot of Chinese patrons in the place. But when you can order something not on the menu and they say, "No problem!," it's a really good Chinese restaurant!!! Xame out just as I expected. Very tasty, hot and flavorful! Also came with a bowl of soup. The food came out fast and hot. (I would recommend chicken or BBQ pork for the meat, if you try the scrambled egg dish.) Service was excellent. Highly recommend. Place was packed the entire time we were there.More

I love this Chinese restaurant. It is small, family owned for more than 55 years. Waitstaff were prompt and efficient. Ordered the Combination Platter appetizer for $18, Chinese chicken salad and pineapple chicken. Sooo much food that we took quite a bit home and finished...it off for supper! Double yum for the day! Highly recommend!!!More

I’m not joking. This is literally my favorite restaurant in the world. I know it’s sort of a hole in the wall. I know the food is greasy. I know that when I leave I’m terrified I’m going to get stabbed by a homeless person....But the food is amazing!!!!!!! Recommendations: Golden chicken: saucy, crisp, sweet...I challenge to find a better American style Chinese poultry Bean sprout chow menu: crispy white noodles...can’t find this anywhere anymore but here Brandy chicken wings: fried chicken served with a sweet sauce - the taste stays with you all night and I love it. Sizzling rice soup: best way to start the meal. So savory and warm- perfect for a cold Fresno day. Black bean sauce shrimp: best black bean sauce dish in the east and western hemispheres! This place is a must visit! Go and all your dreams and hopes will come true! Because you won’t have any...you will only desire the one and only golden!More

This is a very reasonably priced local restaurant that has been here for 20 years or so. The food is very good and fresh! I love that they bring hot tea to every table, you don't have to request it. My favorite is the Sauteed...Kung Pao Chicken! It has great flavor and reheats well. I say this because the portions are large and I always have leftovers.More

The Golden is a little hole in the wall in the Tower District. We ate there at about 6:00 pm and it was packed on a Friday night. The menu is not really varied but the food was more than I could eat and I...noticed that as people left they had take-out containers. The food was prepared well and was very tasty.More

No. I'm not sure they serve more than beer or wine. The Golden is geared towards the eating crowd, not the drinking crowd. LOL.
