About
In the early 1950’s, nestled in between the eucalyptus trees and rich farmlands of what is now Fremont, there came to be a friendly little place where local farmers and their families could meet and share their stories. They told about their families coming from the East and crossing the vast plains and towering Rocky Mountains. They shared lessons they had learned about growing abundant crops of corn and grain for which the area was known. Over the years, this unique hideaway became known for it’s splendid food and even an occasional drop or two of cider. It also became known as the town meeting place, where one could listen to the “Old Timers” tell many stories about life in the Old West, Gold and Silver Mining in the Sierras, to the Wild and Wooly days on the Docks of San Francisco. Since what is now Warm Springs Boulevard used to be the primary route between San Francisco and Santa Cruz, many out of town visitors made this a favorite rest stop during their journeys.

Wonderful meal. The service was welcoming and the food was delicious. It began with a fresh house salad made with a variety of greens, apples, walnuts and blue cheese crumbles. I had the seafood linguine made with a variety of fresh fish, clams, mussels and large prawns. I chose the white sauce and it was creamy and tasted great! I will be sure to return on my next visit.

Was in for a work trip and met a dear local friend here for dinner. We picked, due to location and reviews. We had a 6P Rez on a Thursday and it was not too busy which was nice for us in doing a ton of catch up. We had a lovely booth and received 5 star friendly service from Keith! We ordered the spin a yarn “prawns”, prime rib dinner, mushroom pasta and coconut cream pie. The food was good/solid. They give you French bread, plenty of it… I will say the “prawns” did not seem like prawns given size, taste and texture but the sauce was good. The coconut cream pie was fantastic!

Let me confess, I am a steak snob. But when you go to a “prime” steakhouse there are some expectations. Like flawless service and exquisite steaks. We received neither. It started off bad when we could hear every conversation at the nearby tables, but we could not hear the waiter describing the nights special. When I received my filet mignon I was shocked to see this prime steak served with a side of steak sauce. They did not have enough confidence in their prime steak to serve it with steak sauce. I would try someplace else.

I have never ever been so disrespected ever at a restaurant like I was at The Spin-A-Yarn! I was waiting to be seated at the outdoor podium station and Saki who is apparently the owner took the people behind me with no recognition at all to me-and started to seat the other party. I get it maybe regulars this place reeks of nepotism favoritism and even allow smoking cigars in the tent while people are eating. When I requested a seat away from the speakers he said he was seating that couple first at the table I requested. I didn’t even have time to explain why I wanted that table because it was the quietest away from these big PA speakers they have setup which were entirely too loud for a fine steak house. I requested the table because I get over stimulated by loud music due to a Vestibular disorder which can make me dizzy . I did mention I was before the couple he was seating. His response “if you don’t like it you can just go out on the street” I thought he was kidding at first but he wasn’t. I was not disrespectful in any way. “I commented you don’t have to treat me or speak to me in that that way. This behavior as a restaurant owner is unacceptable. Of course I left will never go back. BTW their food is really not that good certainly for the price. Go somewhere else to support your local business.

Life is short, so read this review and save some of yours. My family and I went here for dinner, and it was a disastrous experience: the seafood was old, prime rib bland and overcooked, and then the owner came out and verbally berated and shouted at us for sending back a prime rib for being over-cooked. The venue has multiple repeat health code violations. If you can go anywhere else for a meal, please do so. You'll be saving yourself money as well as grief. We ordered rockefeller oysters and prime ribs (medium rare). The oysters were hit or miss, some were clearly old and had a foul smell. When we queried the server, they stated they were fresh. We explained that some of these are clearly expired, the response was a shrug and "they are fresh!". When the prime rib was served, it was medium-well done, rubbery, bland, and lacking marbling. We flagged down our server and asked to send it back as it wasn't cooked to our requested doneness. They said it's medium-rare but they can take it back if we would like. They quickly brought out a new slice, but it was more of the same: medium-well done. We didn't feel like we were getting anywhere and stated we would just keep this slice and thanked the server. Only a few moments later did an individual come bursting out of the kitchen shouting and swearing at us. It turned out to be the owner. We politely tried to explain that the slice was not cooked to our liking, but he immediately continued to escalate the situation stating that what we had was medium-rare, we were idiots, and we knew nothing about food. We told him we simply wanted to enjoy our meal, but he continued to yell at us and enter our personal space at the table. At one point he briefly left and then came back to yell at us and to pay our bill, leave, and to not return. I can't imagine what would cause an owner to immediately verbally assault a customer for politely requesting their food be properly cooked, but it happened here. If this is how customers are treated, imagine how the staff are treated once the doors are closed. I just wish I had watched Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares (S4E13) which featured this restaurant, prior to deciding to eat here. In the show, the restaurant had expired oysters, moldy food and meat, and served cold and improperly cooked prime rib. G.R. redid their logo and designed a new menu, but it is clear that after the show the changes to the quality did not remain. Case in point, just look at the continued multiple health code violations or repeat reviews on Yelp and elsewhere which notate the poor quality of the prime rib. Ironically, in that G.R. KN episode some of the customers' prime rib came out under-cooked (e.g. ordered medium rare and it came out bloody rare), and even G.R. himself noted the seafood was old or canned and the beef was rubbery. For $65 at House of Prime Rib (SF), you get a world class meal. For $55 here, you are verbally assaulted by the owner after being served expired oysters and ill-prepared prime rib. Stay safe, life is too short for this.

My friend and I drove from Lancaster to the Bay for my Birthday. We were super excited and decided to try this place. They had a band that was jamming and the Waiter was nice. When my food arrived, the crab cake was cold but the sauce was tasty. My salmon had a hair on it, my gosh did it turn me off. I felt sick and I couldn't eat. Disappointed!!!!

Had a great steak dinner and live music experience all at once. Recommend if you are in the area for business or even better a date.

Spin-A-Yarn always does a stelar job of decorating for the Christmas season, As such, we went there for a holiday meal. I enjoyed salad, pork chop and apples with mashed potatoes. For dessert had Gran Marnier berries. Yum. My husband enjoyed his dinner of salad, salmon, vegetables and mashed, and tiramisu. Dinner comes with tasty rolls. For our beverages I had sparkling water, and decaffinated green tea with dessert. My husband enjoyed a glass of wine and coffee. Service was great. Parking is free. Place was busy, so we called for reservations in advance.

Had a family dinner there for one weekend ‘s night and so disappointed. Pricy but mediocre at best. Fleming or Morton are way better.

This steakhouse is a great change from today's calculated, polished chain restaurants. It's privately owned and the emphasis is on the experience. They have excellent servers, candles, white table cloths... Very nice. It's where I like to go for special family occasions. The prime rib and rack of lamb are my favorites, it's also fun to have a martini or Moscow mule and know it will be done right. The bar is more casual but also a good experience. Highly recommend!

Had lunch there with a buddy who eats there frequently. I was blown away with the quality of the meal. I had a salad, which was very fresh and flavorful, and then Dover sole in a lemon garlic butter sauce. It was the best fish that I've had in a long time! The key lime pie for dessert was great too. I'll be going back, for sure.

Had the pleasure of speaking at this venue for about 25 people. Long, narrow banquet room with built-in stage and screen. Excellent menu, food and service.
