We had gone before and eaten outside under the beautiful Big Tree, but this time it was February during "Restaurant Week" with a fixed menu (some choices), and we ate inside. It was warm & cozy, and the food seemed fresh and well prepared. Our...server Alisa (sp?) was friendly and provided excellent service! The Fried chicken was delicious (moist & hot inside with a very tasty crust). The lime trifle for dessert was also excellent! Others in our party liked their food too. Try the 2014 Moshin RRV Pinot Noir.More

Friends and I were visiting the area and went here for dinner on a lovely evening. We sat outside. I loved the atmosphere--lights hanging over the patio, warm breezes, California casual. Service was chill but attentive. The menu was appealing--a farm-to-table vibe, but full of...comfort foods like fried chicken, pot pie, etc., although also quite vegetarian friendly. We had a yummy pickle board; a really delicious, multi-vegetable salad with a light buttermilk dressing; and the fried chicken, which had a crispy and tasting coating and a huge portion! Overall, a really nice experience. I would definitely return when in the area again.More

I ordered the Hash, which was a little different than what I was use to. It used pork belly, it was cooked in a way that it wasn't greasy or chewy. The patio garden was lovely.

Located in a 150-year-old building, The Backyard has a nice outdoor area and fun casual ambience. The menu is limited, fried chicken and chicken pot pie among the dinner highlights. We shared a grilled peach/burrata salad that was tasty but pricey at $14. My cod...dish was very good. My partner had a fried dairy version of “gnocchi” that he didn’t particularly enjoy. We shared the apple crisp for dessert, primarily apple with just a little sprinkling of something crisp on top. Wine pours are small and again, pricey at around $14. Our bill with tip was $125. We did not think it was a good value for one salad, two entrees, one dessert and two glasses of wine. Lunch might be better.More

Now I know why people order fried chicken... I never order Fried Chicken but they were out of the gnocchi. It was delicious! Great coating. Crispy. Yum. The biscuit was incredible. We ordered 2 to go. Also order the stuffed peppers. Tasty but noteworthy.

Ended up here following good advice of local people, actually we were pretty disappointed... Nothing is wrong with service (waiters very nice and fast service) but the food was pretty...tasteless. We had fried green tomatoes as starter and it was more the fried part than...the tomatoes... Then I had the fried chicken and it was just “uhm”...nothing special... my girlfriend had the gnocchi and, again, pretty tasteless, but at least the all vegetables sauce was good. Check pretty much okMore

Whilst spending sometime around the Russian River we had a lovely meal at the Backyard in Forestville. A nice drive through vineyards and Redwoods to get there and the large outside patio is perfect on a warm evening and is pet friendly. The food was...really good and especially enjoyed the chicken. A really great spot to dine when visiting the area and highly recommended.More

Their donuts with jam were fantastic! It's a bit sad they didn't have much food for my kids. Apart from the delicious donuts!

Backyard was established in 2012. The restaurant has seating indoor and out & we chose outdoor on a beautiful Monday evening. Complimentary music on Monday by a group called Puffinhorn who were terrific. The restaurant has a full bar and a parking lot. No corkage...charge on Mondays. The food was excellent and our party shared a Greek salad sand we all chose the fried chicken which was served with summer squash, a spicy rice dish and mouthwatering biscuits. This was the best fried chicken we ever had 👍More

Fairly typical for this area - small, farm to table, a bit hippy'ish. Outstanding food. Live music a few times a week (chill music, not loud at all). Mondays (I think) is BYOB night (no corking fee). Very enjoyable experience.
