This was a great find. We first went to Phatsy Klines (next door, will review them as well) and went to their sister location next door to have a couple drinks. The bartender at Phatsys recommended the crab cakes and said the crab was very fresh. I personally do not care for crabcakes because they are always heavily breaded and have too much mayonnaise and that's all you can taste. I have only liked them once in Victoria BC (Nautical Nellie's). These were amazing! Super fresh considering the crab was alive less than a half hour before. The drinks were on point and the service was exceptional. I had dinner reservations else were but the next time I come back to Eureka, I will definitely return for dinner and wouldn't mind staying at the hotel either (very vintage).

Tavern 1888 is in a lovely historic hotel, “Inn at 2nd & C”. Walking in for our reservation, I caught a view of the 2 chiefs artfully finishing a couple of plates. Their professionalism was easy to see. Our wait staff was great, and we ordered 2 of the dinner specials. Both meals were exceptional, and the King Salmon was cooked perfectly and served beautifully with farm fresh veggies.

Dinner at Tavern 1888 was exceptional! The beautifully restored inn is a focal point of Eureka's interesting historic distric. To start, they serve creative and delicious craft cocktails. They have also pulled off a dining room that is both dark and cozy (with rich color and restored period pieces like the beautiful wooden bar and pressed metal ceiling), but where it is easy to read the menu and see the well presented food, because of their use of discrete and focused table lighting. Lucky for us, the catch of the day was wild caught Alaskan King Salmon and it was superb. The staff's attention to details and the professional, personal service were also top notch. Highly recommended.

Tavern 1888 is an absolute gem. If you are withi an hour of Eureka, make this stop! It is worth building a night trip around. We had the Poke tower, bread with burrata and onion jam, Al pastor pork belly, and everything was insane. Can recommend enough, 5 stars

Pleasantly surprised! While we were staying at the hotel anyway, we got to enjoy this restaurant. Halibut was super, staff very nice, chef uses his own family recipes, such as a wonderful pina colada- crème brûlée, absolutely amazing

This restaurant in Eureka is truly fabulous. I had lamb skews ( full of flavor and tender) my husband had grilled scallops. Both amazing. Cocktails from the bar were delicious without pretension. Too it off, Angela, our waitperson was perfect in terms of service, and also warm and helpful in terms of guiding us to great places to visit in Eureka! Fantastic experience and a wonderful meal.

Excellent food, atmosphere and service. We travel around the world and this was one of our favorites. The food was so flavorful with many different flavor combinations. Cocktails were amazing. Don’t miss their homemade lemongrass gin. Wow!

My husband and I ate here twice during our stay at the Inn. I ordered the local Humboldt oysters twice and both times they were the freshest, melt in your mouth oysters I have had the pleasure to eat. The jalapeno hog sauce was the best sauce I've had on raw oysters The cocktails are killer and all of the main dishes we ordered were very creative and expertly prepared.

How rare and wonderful to be surprised by a delightful meal! They bring the elements together - ambience, compelling cocktails, enticing menu… most importantly the chef and service delivered. Once of the best meals of my life. Thank you!

Tavern 1888—Eureka I am so grateful for an adventurous husband that when asked, “What do you want for dinner,” he says, “let’s go to 1888, we haven’t been there yet.” I mean, I did NOT want to deal with dinner at home yesterday so this was music to my ears. Driving to Eureka for dinner is not something we often do but we changed our routine and did it! And man, I might say this more than once in this post but this was the best dining experience we’ve had locally in a while and I have been out for lunch several times in the last couple of weeks. Located at the Eagle House, aka Inn at 2nd and C in Eureka, it is, of course, beautifully decorated with a full bar and plenty of good seating. The decor gives the feeling of comfort and honestly, romance. Now we would love to be the people that order apps and salads and mains and desserts but that’s just too much to eat so we had to pick wisely. Matthew was curious about the Michelada Oyster Shooter which is a Humboldt Bay Oyster, in the shell, sitting on a shot of pepper vodka, house made bloody mix, horseradish and peeled lemon with a Tajin rim. Now this is a guy that doesn’t like tomato juice nor Bloody Marys but he said it was really delicious. “If I could get a bloody that tasted like this I would.” He was very happy with this decision. Then for mains, of course we had to peruse the menu carefully and talk to our server about GF options for the man. I get to have whatever I want but unfortunately, he’s not so lucky. We all determined, with a double check with the chef, that Matthew’s first choice of Thai Duck confit is GF. This was served with a curried Calrose rice, vegetables that were broccoli and asparagus garnished with green onions and caramelized fish sauce. Once again he was super, super happy with this plate. The vegetables, he said, were perfectly cooked, the rice was perfectly spicy and flavorful and he really liked that fish sauce. The duck was also delicious. I saw pasta on the menu and had to have it since I get to have all the glutens! I ordered the Pasta Siciliana which was Italian sausage, mushrooms and spinach tossed in a tomato cream sauce (menu says with Chile flakes but I don’t believe that was in there) and cavatelli pasta. I ate the whole damn thing! Every bite had a perfect texture and fresh pasta for the win. I have a greatly diminished sense of taste so I depend on texture and presentation a lot. I would have liked the kick of Chile flakes because that is something I can experience but it was just fine as it was. No dessert for us. I overheard the options and none were likely GF but we didn’t need it anyway. We did start out our experience by each ordered the “Out of the Fog” which was Grey Goose (you can also have a Gin option) with Humboldt Fog and Olive. It was delicious! Overall, this was a 5 out of 5 star meal in my opinion. It hit all the marks with good food, ambiance and service. I have had several meals out in the last couple of weeks that were disappointing and underwhelming but THIS was the best! We’ve decided we need to dine out for dinner more and this will totally be a place we want to return to.

Exceptional food and drinks. The pleasant, professional people are second to none, in particular Ms A. This would be my regular, first-choice restaurant if I lived near by.
