Lois the Pie Queen took me back to my mom's cooking. A home cooked meal with outstanding service. Freshly backed big biscuits, light, fluffy omelet filled with everything delicious...great coffee. I had just moved to the neighborhood and my roommate begged me to try it and when the meal was over, I could not express my total joy. Thank you to Lois the Pie Queen.

My husband & I had breakfast...he had the pecan waffle and I had the chicken & waffle. The pecan waffle was good...very cinnamony, but a little skimpy on the pecans. The fried chicken was delish...very crunchy and flavorful. You get two pieces with the waffle. We also shared a slice of banana cream pie. Very good...with chunks of banana and a very flaky crust. Deducting a star for somewhat slow/inaccurate service. We had ordered a biscuit as well, which never came. It also took awhile for us to get our bill.

Wow. I love sweet potato pie. Make an amazing one myself might I add. This sweet potato pie cheesecake was impressive!!! Too good.
Warning: Cash Only. Didn’t see any signs in the place indicating cash only.
Was going to give 4 stars because the hostess wasn’t very welcoming. The waitress however made up the experience by giving the sweet potato pie as a free sample and it tasted great!

Much beloved, this North Oakland neighborhood resto has served up soul food for years and years. We love to patronize it because it is indeed an institution. In this era we bought take out dinners and the side dishes were all terrific, and all traditional. Sadly our ham steaks had no flavor. So not a lot of stars, sorry.

The service was not good. We were never even served the cornbread muffins we ordered. Our dinners were mixed. The short ribs were pretty good but the pork chops were dry, hard and tasted like burnt grease. Mac n cheese was excellent, greens were way too sweet (sugary) and red beans were dry and tasteless. Service was so slow that after waiting 30 minutes for our bill we finally went to get our checks from the cashier and she had to search for them.

Well visiting my niece and her family in Oakland we went to this place for brunch and I couldn’t say enough positive things about. This place has so much history behind it has so many famous visitors and it is a great atmosphere with great service and the food is incredible. I had my best breakfast ever at this place. Make this a stop during your travels he won’t regret it.

Stick to the southern food, whether for breakfast or supper on Sunday, and you will not be disappointed. Not many places in the bay do authentic southern soul like these folks. Staff are outstanding. But don't come if you're looking for a quick n and out, you'll likely wait for a table and they're not trying to rush you your check. Just eat, digest and eat some more. And bring home a pie!! Great place.

This is my 2nd visit here. The first time I came on a saturday at 3pm hoping to have pie and coffee, no luck. I tried again on a monday and waitress said, monday isn't a good day for pie, we make it late in the afternoon. All of the non-pie desserts looked like it was sitting for along time in the dessert merry-go-round.
For lunch, its not much of a southern menu, only offered for Sunday dinners.
Lunch was mainly burgers, sandwiches, or Chicken and Waffle . Waited 20 minutes to be disappointed. Waffle was thin, yet tasty. Fried chicken was served on it own plate, breast and thigh or thigh and drum stick. Overcooked and dry, not super crispy. The service was good, but the food not.

Had delicious chicken and waffles with friendly service. The place is a neighborhood institution and feels like it. When you dine at Lois' you feel like an old friend, even if it's just your first visit.

Their service is pretty much confined to breakfast and lunch. It's soul food, but not exclusively. Very old school luncheonette. Sweet and cute. Very reasonable prices and very good service.

This place deserves your attention. My wife and I went here while in town and enjoyed everything about the place; the ambiance, the food and the service were all wonderful. She got the Chicken n waffles...she says they're the best she's ever had. I got an omelette that was great and the grits were some of the best I've had. We both took pies to go and they were both delicious. Whenever we're in the Bay area again, we'll be stopping by indeed.

When you walk in it always feels like your visiting family.
I love the wholesome ambience and soothing tunes in the background.
The Food!! I LOVE the grits and biscuits. The turkey/chicken sausage are a tasty blend. I was surprised to salmon croquettes on the menu and had to try them. I enjoyed them.
The fried chicken was juicy, golden brown but under seasoned. I suppose it's better than being over seasoned!
Come pay a visit to this old Oakland Gem. I'm pretty sure no matter what you try, you'd be glad you came!

A wonderful community experience. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed! We heard from the waitress, the episode on F@&$ That's Delicious has definitely made their business boom since.
Waited outside in the rain and it was definitely worth it. I got the Southern Fried Chicken breakfast with grits and rice with a side of collards. The chicken was so well done and the star of the show for me was the collards! We got the banana pudding to go instead of pie. It was amazing!
