Excellent food (braised short ribs, salmon, risotto), great service (Sean), nice interior. Definitely the best restaurant in Emeryville. Outdoor porch is very nice as well. Place is well visited but not overcrowded which is nice.

From the outside you might be skeptical, but don't judge a book by its cover! Food was great! Ordered the calamari as an app, chicken picatta and cobbler for desert. Wonderful! Practically licked my plate! Colleague ordered the scallops and creme brule and loved.

Make reservations as they are necessary in this very busy restaurant! We visited on a Friday night with reservations for 8pm, and there were people waiting. We had a nice table against the back wall. The decor is very nice, inviting and warm. There is lots of wood, so that increases the noise level inside a bit. Our server was... More

The steak salad is to die for and most of the food is consistently good. I think its a little pricey but they don't rush you at all and sevice is pretty good

Had the pleasure of visiting the townhouse restaurant for dinner on Valentine's Day or beer with a good friend and colleague rather than my beautiful wife. That said both of us were overly impressed with the quality of the food, presentation, energy of the room and overall rustic and pleasing ambiance of the room. Started off with the chicken wings... Started out with a less than friendly host. He was unfriendly and short...figured he was having a bad night. He did find my reservation and seat us promptly. The appetizers were really good - avocado bruschetta and shrimp. Meals in order of appearance and taste: scallops, short ribs and 5 spice ahi. Don't bother ordering the ahi. Very disappointing. Desert... More

Generous portions of delicious entrees and creative salads. Try the Thai steak or Ahi Tuna salads. Aesthetically funky on the inside.

A recent visit to the Townhouse reminded me of how much I like this place. Four of us had dinner. I loved my kale and quinoa salad. With the addition of some grilled chicken, the salad was a generous main course. Everyone in our party of four had a different dish, and everyone was happy. The bar serves excellent cocktails.... This was a pleasant surprise. When I walked in, I expected a burger and sandwich place with mediocre food. The ambiance is very loud and casual -- lots of oak wood. But the food was truly outstanding. There were lots of interesting options on the menu, and several specials. One of the specials that night was prime rib, and it... More

From the Emeryville fireman's dream of a Speakeasy that he built in 1926, to Steve Vernetti, the original Townhouse Speakeasy bartender who along with his family ran it for 35 plus years after Prohibition ended, the TH has been and remains an East Bay institution. Next came the 70's and 80's when country and western bars, music and dancing were at their peak and the theme at the TH. This period is fondly remembered by Cal graduates who continue to visit the Townhouse and reminisce about their dancing days but do not miss the peanut shells and sawdust on the floor. 1990 was the year that Ellen Hope Rosenberg, the current executive chef and owner, took over an ailing TH and resurrected it from top to bottom. From her inspired American-California style menu to the maintenance of the original construction both in and out. This is a restaurant that has a unique story whose food and ambiance is as authentic as the staff are courteous and genuine.
