Outdoor dining in the Age of Covid19 is a luxury not easily found, especially traveling the California coastline north of Marin County. Although the Sonoma County Coast seemingly has a beach every 1/2 mile or so, finding a place open to eat dinner outside is...a challenge. Welcome to Cape Fear Cafe in Duncan Mills which features an outdoor patio and remarkably tasty comfort food with a surprising Thai twist. With about 10 tables of varying size, the 5 of us, including one youngster ate and drank extremely well for almost 2 hours. First, we were parched from our trek on nearby Goat Rock Beach and immediately ordered a bottle of a Gloria Ferrer (pinot noir) rosé. What a pleasant surprise. Totally refreshing and at $38 priced fairly. Then two appetizers: a bowl of fiery clams in a Thai broth with a 4* spice level. Unexpected and delicious. We also ordered the shrimp cocktail which satisfied the two people averse to the spice level of the clams. Entrees: two of the four adult entrees were the halibut(!) special which was a godsend to the two eaters watching their red meat intake. (Btw, the other daily special was a prime rib which was gave meat eaters an additional entree along with the printed menu’s rib-eye steak.) The other two entrees we tried were 1) mine: a seafood broth, instead of tomato sauce, take on fra diavlo over linguine. Only a 2* spice kick which was fine with me. I ate the thing including broth down to the last drop. And 2) a temperature hot Thai egg noodle (lo mein) salad that was piled high and filled a plate the size of 14” pizza. My friend was speechless and took 2/3 of it home. I was envious. The bill with the above - no dessert - was $230 (which included a yummy grilled cheese sandwich and fries for the kid) including a 30% tip for the staff’s “essential” service.More

With great crab cakes and chowder, this little gem is a great place to eat. We live nearby and have had several of the dishes, all good. My absolute favorite is the Thai Noodle salad. It is so large a portion, I usually take half...home. Very fresh and flavorful. I can't wait to go back and order it again.More

I have the chance to eat here on several occasions. It is a regular stop on motorcycle ride along the coast. They have a nice variety of dishes along with daily specials. They serve breakfast all day. The staff is friendly and the service is...fast. The cafe is part of an old little town that has sort of been restored.More

This small cafe, located in Duncan Mills, is a nice place to stop for a meal. Be aware that service is ... leisurely ... but the food when it comes is quite good. We started with the shrimp and grits appetizer, excellent and well spiced....Dinner portions were large, and came with a house or Caesar salad. Some of the items on the menu were not available that evening (salmon and ribs) -- the server should have mentioned that because we heard the same thing repeated table to table. I had the smoked salmon tortellini, which was excellent and very filling. My husband and daughter both pted for fish and chips, which was crispy and fresh. Dessert this evening was complimentary as the owner had leftovers from Christmas the evening before. All and all a very nice meal.More

Stopped in Duncan Mills in search of lunch and stumbled on Cape Fear Cafe. The Thai noodle salad was so good I couldn't quit eating. Had grilled shrimp added. Delicious. SO had oyster poboy, which was huge. He said very good but the oysters were...maybe a little overfried. He ate all of it, however. Bread pudding was very tasty. Left feeling very satisfied.More

Saturday night is prime rib night...and it is good. Everything we have had here is very good..with the exception of the clam chowder...they put BACON in it. Being so close to the source of clams, there is no excuse for that. The house salad is...superb as it most of there offerings.More

My husband and I went here for lunch at the suggestion of our AirBnB host. I had the tandoori chicken sandwich; the chicken was plump and juicy, the sauce had kick, and the bread they use for the sandwich was something amazing. I forgot what...type of bread it was, but hot damn it was perfect. My husband had the cheese tortellini with salmon; I stole some off his plate and I thought it was delicious and creamy! Service was friendly, we would definitely return to try dinner options.More

They have a wide range of menu choices, table cloth dining in or outdoor patio. Excellent food, not too pricey. A favorite stop on 116.

The Ginger chicken salad as really really good, as were the Salmon Crab cakes. The food is great. We came at 2pm and were given a menu with lots of good choices -- then found out that each quizine is limited to certain times. These...times are not listed on the menu, so, over and over again, we heard the wait staff explaining what people couldn't have. Being outside there was a fly problem at our table. The autmosphere was more loud than peaceful.More
