Stopped by here after our tour of the nearby wind turbines. The staff was friendly, bathrooms very clean. We enjoyed date shakes on the patio in the back, and were greeted by Snowball, the resident cat.

Date shakes are a big thing around Palm Springs. There are some well known places on the tourist circuit to try one, but if you’re looking for a small, off the beaten path place that makes their shakes with actual dates and not date crystals...(dried flakes) head to the Windmill Market about 6-7 miles north of downtown Palm Springs. My wife and I visited in April 2019. One of the first things we did upon our return to town this year was to head back to the Windmill Market for another Date Shake. We don’t even like dates, but these shakes are fantastic, tasty and refreshing. The Windmill Market’s staff is super friendly which adds to the overall experience. The market’s quiet backyard also features seating with umbrellas making it an oasis of tranquility in the desert to have a frozen refreshment.More

My visit included a date shake that was absolutely delicious. The garden area is welcoming. I purchased date pieces to cook with and they were really convenient to use. I also purchased their BarHi dates (I think that is the correct name), a small round...date that melts in our mouth. They said it tasted like a caramel, and perhaps it does. The little dates are outstanding.More

I have been a date milkshake connoisseur for 60 years. I thought Shields was the best possible. Not so. We have a new champion. The Windmill Market!

We stopped in for some of the famous date shakes and enjoyed a peaceful visit to their secret garden. The shakes were worth the visit and the service was good. It’s a small store that serves food too. We were sorry we hadn’t timed our...visit to eat there too.More

Our bus driver stopped here a year ago while on a tour and we told ourselves that the next time we came back to the desert, we'd come here for a date shake.....and we did!! Also had a pastrami sandwich on toasted rye....the best I've...ever had. You can't beat the price. Two date milkshakes and we split the sandwich which came with potato salad. The total cost was seventeen dollars and some cents. The back patio was inviting and we ended up visiting with other travelers. Such a great little hole in the wall place our in the middle of the desert!More

Spouse and I reviewed the Windmill about a year ago. Since then we have sampled more of their daily specials and almost hate to rave about them for fear of letting a hidden gem be revealed. Every order we have tried has been cooked/prepared to...perfection. Tacos, pot roast, lasagna, meat loaf. We make the drive from Palm Desert to The Windmill on a weekly basis. Their date shakes are fantastic...a meal in itself. The staff is friendly and efficient. We try to get there either before or after the Windmill Tour bus arrives. The space inside is small, however there is a nice patio in the back of the store with tables and chairs and a resident cat, Simba, who may be available for head scritches. You won' t be disappointed.More

Great choice for lunch! I found this as we were on Indian Canyon. We stopped, hoping for a quick lunch. We were not disappointed. The Pastrami sandwich was one of the best I’ve ever had! Pastrami lean and the additional stuff perfect. Very good potato...salad. Top it all off with a date shake! I’ll definitely come by again. They should add “deli” to their name! We’ve driven by so many times , without a clue!More

We stopped here on an outing to Desert Hot Springs for a late lunch. Everyone enjoyed their sandwiches. Fresh ingredients, lovely back patio and a delicious date shake. It is just a little joint and very eclectic. We’d go again when near by.
