I booked a reservation for a party of 4 to celebrate my brother’s birthday and the only times available was 10am for breakfast. We were thankfully seated along the window with the fantastic view of the beach and we were welcomed with a birthday card on the table. Shout out to Teya (I wish I asked for the right spelling!) for being a wonderful server on a Sunday morning. Parking: $8 valet available which is worth it since street meter parking was already $4/hr. Food: -Calamari ($17.50) and Brussel Sprouts ($14) for starters were perfect to share for us 4. We paired it with Pog Mimosas, Bloody Mary, and Espresso Martini -Togarashi Spice Crusted Ahi Benedict ($23): pretty tasty Ahi pieces, served with breakfast potatoes -Chef’s Burger ($19): nothing too special -Hula Pie for the birthday slice: this was so big and so good! Perfect to share with the table. *I think only through this month, Jake’s takes off the bill what you donate to the Wounded Warrior Project for up to $50 per person* Overall, we had a great experience dining here to celebrate my brother’s birthday. Good food with a great view. Would love to dine here for lunch and dinner next time!

Service was amazing. We had a reservation but the table we were waiting on had a birthday party that was running way over. The manager came to the bar where we were waiting a apologized profusely - he gave us 2 complimentary appetizers and opened the bottle of champagne we brought with no corkage fee. When we finally got our table, the service was great with the waiter again apologizing but explained with situation before us with a bunch of out of town guests for a surprise birthday. With that explanation we were completely satisfied and enjoyed an amazing meal with all of the fish dishes (we tried 5 different ones) and the braised ribs all being great. Definitely recommend using the valet parking - very convenient and fast.

I had made reservations on a Monday for a party of 4 at 7 PM, hoping to catch the sunset. I requested a booth table inside facing the ocean. Upon arrival we were greeted and seating at a table I requested...thank you! The place has a beautiful ocean view location and is extremely popular. Large parties, friend and family gatherings, this place was packed. Considering how busy it was the servers never missed a beat. We ordered cocktails, followed by Crispy Calamari, Grilled Prawns, Heirloom Tomato Burrata Salad, Mussels, Jumbo Lump Crabcake, Mixed Seafood Pot, Togarashi Spice crusted Ahi and Surfing Steak. When all the dishes were served, the presentation was perfect, all the food was cooked perfectly and the tasted good. I would definitely come back to entertain friends or family. Atmosphere: beautiful ocean view location. Service: very good. Food: good.

If you’re in the mood for some good, no-fuss food, Jake’s Restaurant is definitely worth checking out. The vibe is super chill, and the food is always spot on. Whether you’re in the mood for something big or just want a light bite, they’ve got you covered. What I really like is how fresh everything tastes—kind of like Proven Plates, which I’ve been loving lately. They do healthy, personalized meal plans and make it super easy to eat well without sacrificing flavor. If you’re all about fresh, tasty food like me, you’ll love both Jake’s and Proven Plates. So, whether you’re out grabbing a bite at Jake’s or looking for a fresh meal at home, both are great choices!

I live far away. I’m on vacations in Solana beach for a week . I was walking on the beach in Del Mar and came across by Jakes restaurant. I walked 3 miles and just wanted to refresh. with a nonalcoholic peanut colada and ice cream I wanted to sit outside and enjoy fresh air… Despite that restaurant 1 PM is practically empty , I was refused to be seated outside on a closed in patio for that! I was literally told that only ordering full entry I could sit there!!! They suggested me to sit by the bar , Why are you should sit in the bar was drunk people in the middle of the day to eat my ice cream I just want to peacefully for 20 minutes to enjoy my beverage … Is that even legal? Are they so cocky that they located by the beach:) The smaller town is - the more obnoxious and trashy they treat people , they should be ashamed about themselves Virga

The food is outstanding at Jake’s everything on menu was great. What made our night was the outstanding service we got from our server Miranda. She took the time to help us with selections was very informed of menu and was very friendly and talkative that made a relaxing and enjoyable evening.

We were on vacation, and Jake’s had been recommended to us by a friend back in a Florida. We did not use valet parking, but used paid parking across the street. We arrive at a little before 4:00 on a Friday, and were told they didn’t seat until 4:00. We were quickly given a table one off the window view of the ocean in the corner, when there were open tables on the window, but were told we couldn’t sit there, that other people had come in before us. Why weren’t they seated then ? We were giving our orders to the waiter ( male) and my Sister ordered a lower priced wine with her dinner, the waiter said he would’t drink that wine himself, but she should spend another 4 dollars and get this specific decent wine. I was speechless. If I had been on my own I would have left. She actually went along with it. When he left, we were wondering why if the other wine was so bad, would they keep it on the menu.. My son and I both had burgers, which were good, but the brioche bun fell apart completely. My sister had chowder and a Caesar salad. Salad just ok. The experience was very uncomfortable. I would not recommend or go back. We ate out at several other San Diego restaurants over our vacation and were welcomed at each one- this was the worst. I have never had a waiter make a comment like that anywhere.

First impressions What can you say, on the beach, great drive, busy area due to beach but beautiful. Parking Limited but cheap valet (7$). There is street side available. Use valet. Ambiance Great seaside cottage feeling, lots of room and a little chilly. Bring a jacket. You CANNOT beat the view Menu Small but with great options. Food Crispy calamari was awesome. Macadamia nut panko was nice Steak and wedge was cooked perfectly. Only drawback was they placed the perfectly cooked steak on a COLD salad plate for the Wedge…..arghh…. (4 reason) Chef’s burger was great. Roast turkey sandwich good, The green apple addition was great. Water glasses are small and waitstaff did not visit often, it was busy. (4 reason) Price Appropriate for location and quality. Final Thoughts Great place, make it a visit before Thursday’s Del Mar Race day. The drive to the racetrack from Jake’s cuts the line short.

I’ve been going to Jake’s since it’s opening when I was a kid. I worked four years at Jake’s in the kitchen from a prep cook to cook and occasional day chef assistant. Jake’s has been a part of my family’s life as Del Mar locals. I took my first date in college for dinner there, I worked with amazing people there, I was friends with founders Rob Thibaud and Sandy Saxten, I worked with managers like Bill and Annie, chef Richard Bernard, and so many others. I recently went in with a couple of friends and we were enjoying dinner, cocktails, and desserts. At no time were we told that we had a fixed period of time to eat and leave. The manager suddenly and rudely told us we needed to finish up and leave. I’ll have not gone back to Jake’s since this experience and I do not plan to.

We had early reservations on Sunday, arrived early and were seated shortly after they opened. We were seated in the back so that we could watch the sunset over the ocean as we ate. The service, the food, the atmosphere, everything was fabulous!

I wanted to take my girlfriend to a restaurant from my past time living in San Diego. Jake's a great place with good food. It still is a great location, but sadly the food isn't on the same scale. Our salads could have used more time in the "spinner", they were too wet. The menu tried to impress with worldly spice names leading on their entree's Sumac, Achiote, and Togarashi but those names hide a lack of quality. The Calimari dish with macadamia nut panko was disappointing but was not atypical calamari. More like calamari steaks cut to finger-size portions with a sweet-tasting Asian sauce. Edible, but I felt deceived. The filet looked better and was fine, but the asparagus was old and woody. I will goo back, just not for the food.

Having been recommended by friends, my wife and I decided to give Jake’s a try for dinner. Having been vacationing in Solana Beach for a couple of weeks, we had tried several restaurants for the first time. Upon arrival we appreciated the availability of Valet Parking, the ease of making reservations, the Old Fashion, the polite and prompt service, their daily seafood special, and, of course, the seating almost on the beach. Will return there again, and will be another couple to recommend it to others!

We think the main attraction of Jake's is the view of the beach and all of the beach activity. We made a 1:45 pm reservation for 4 people for lunch during the peak-demand year-end holidays. They showed us to a booth with a view of the outer room where we could see other diners enjoying their view of the beach. We had seafood chowder, pork Cuban sandwich and salmon with potatoes and Brussels sprouts. The food quality was between good and very good, depending on the dish. We shared a hula pie for dessert. Our server was very busy. He and other servers promised many times to bring hot sauce and bread, but mostly they forgot. The men's room we visited serves two men, maximum, and it borders on intimate when four or five grown men pack in there to wait their turn. Valet parking is $6. Considering the view, service, quality of food and price, our experience was between poor and average. Friends have assured us that Jake's is a better value on clear days when there are not so many diners, and I guess we'll just have to believe them because we probably won't find out.

We really wanted Hula Pie so we decided to visit Jake’s. It is in a beautiful location on the beach. The place was pretty busy on a Thursday night. Service was mediocre. The chicken and fish plates were dry. Steak was not cooked properly, and you hardly get any potatoes. There were Six of us in our party and neither one of us would recommend. Waiting for Hawaii for the best Hula Pie!

Outstanding food and service. Great view of the ocean. Fish dishes were incredible. Cheesecake was a killer dessert to share. Valet parking made it easy to pull up and enjoy the food experience!
