Came to Jakes for a late lunch today. Service was excellent. Food was great. My fish tacos were excellent and highly recommended. Steak salad also excellent. Drinks also went down well. Highly recommend jakes when in Del Mar.

A sunset dinner at the beach at Jakes was the perfect ending of our San Diego trip. Every single dish had a special touch. I commented on the delicious iced tea and the server offered to send some home with me. Such a beautiful place...and kind people.More
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Jake's. We arrived right around 5pm and were seated at a table with brach views. Our waiter was helpful and knowledgeable with the menu and attentive to our table. Both of our meals were cooked perfectly and the flavors were...excellent. Definitely check out Jake's!More
Jake’s is favorite beachside restaurant with good seafood to visit each year to enjoy good food and enjoy the beach activities.
First impressions What can you say, on the beach, great drive, busy area due to beach but beautiful. Parking Limited but cheap valet (7$). There is street side available. Use valet. Ambiance Great seaside cottage feeling, lots of room and a little chilly. Bring a...jacket. You CANNOT beat the view Menu Small but with great options. Food Crispy calamari was awesome. Macadamia nut panko was nice Steak and wedge was cooked perfectly. Only drawback was they placed the perfectly cooked steak on a COLD salad plate for the Wedge…..arghh…. (4 reason) Chef’s burger was great. Roast turkey sandwich good, The green apple addition was great. Water glasses are small and waitstaff did not visit often, it was busy. (4 reason) Price Appropriate for location and quality. Final Thoughts Great place, make it a visit before Thursday’s Del Mar Race day. The drive to the racetrack from Jake’s cuts the line short.More
We were highly recommended to this restaurant by the Fairmont Del Mar. We were not disappointed in any way. The service and the food were all faultless. The food is very tasty with a good varied menu. The restaurant is right on the beach so...timed right and you get a good sunset view. Would definitely return.More
I went to Jake's on a recommendation. It was a lunch after I graduated USD. Parking was difficult so I resorted to paying the $28 for the lot. I should have just used the valet that was offered in the Jake's lot. It was significantly...cheaper, but I wanted to head down to the Pacific Ocean for the first time in my life after eating. I had the mixed seafood pot and it was amazing. I highly recommend it. I also had a local beer that I enjoyed. I sat at the bar and the staff was wonderful. The bartender engaged me in conversation and asked why I was in the area. I explained to him that I had just graduated USD and he offered to buy me a beer and explained the importance of my day to the other bartenders. I thought that was very personable and humble of him to do so. I did not expect it, but it made my accomplishment feel that much more special. I wish I remembered his name so I could write it here. After I ate, I walked down to the beach which was directly behind the restaurant and put my feet into the Pacific for the first time ever. I highly recommend Jakes.More
Good food that is reasonably priced with a great location. Valet parking is well priced at $7 (plus tips). Enjoyed a French rose wine too which was lovely!
Haven’t been here in a few years. I love that it hasn’t changed. Still great views with an awesome menu. We ordered everything from clams, seafood pot soup…The drinks were on point. Lots of choices in Del Mar/La Jolla area. Make this a must visit.
Up until the last two visits, including last night, when we celebrated my son's 14th birthday and eldest daughter's high school graduation, Jakes was our 'go-to' San Diego destination for celebrating everything (birthdays, graduations, anniversaries). For over a decade and a half - Jake's was...it. What set Jakes apart beyond the obvious (location) was the exceptional service and quality of every meal we ever ordered. Something has changed. The last two times, the service lacked, and the quality and consistency in the food we previously enjoyed so much - lacked. Last night, despite a $400 bill, our server was MIA throughout the seating. He made us feel unimportant. Everyone's meal arrived cold and overcooked, which is a bad combination. We sent my son's food back to be reheated. Our other guests all commented - this is not the Jakes we previously came to love. Parking has become more expensive ($7), and bread is no longer complimentary (or even offered for purchase last night). We waited and waited for water, and it took almost 15 minutes from the time I initiated payment for the final credit card receipt to be delivered for signature. Despite all of that - yes, I tipped 20%, because servers work hard and it's likely not the server's fault the overall Jake's experience has lost its luster. Sadly, my wife and I both commented that we think the 'bloom is off the rose' and we'll have to try out other local options, which breaks our hearts - You still can't beat the view... but unfortunately, a great location isn't all that matters when you're celebrating great moments in life. I'm sure we'll find another location where the location works, the food is great, and the management team excels, the way Jake's once did.More
The location is great, the staff was very attentive and the food was standard fair. Nothing wrong with the food, but nothing to write home about.
Went back to Jake’s with fond memories from several years prior and it lived up to my high expectations. My daughter and I shared 4 small plates accompanied by their delicious non-alcoholic virgin cucumber squeeze. The Brussels sprouts were not overcooked and well seasoned with...chimichurri, the seafood chowder was a meal in itself- rich, creamy…a real standout (along with fresh focaccia squares for dipping), the ceviche beat the tuna poke stack (a little sweet for my taste). So many choices we wanted to try that we’ll go back for. Service was excellent, as well. Nice ambiance, very chill. Make sure to walk on the beach at sunset and watch the surfers and the pelicans. Perfection!More
Great view!! We had a quick late lunch of fish tacos, burger, and split a salad. Food was very good but you come here for the view.
First time here for dinner. The service was very slow, I think maybe our server was new. Menu was somewhat limited - maybe 10 choices for entrees. Remove the ones that have mushrooms and maybe 6-7. The chowder was excellent. The short rib was too...smoky. The shrimp were very good. We will be back for the views!More
I live far away. I’m on vacations in Solana beach for a week . I was walking on the beach in Del Mar and came across by Jakes restaurant. I walked 3 miles and just wanted to refresh. with a nonalcoholic peanut colada and ice...cream I wanted to sit outside and enjoy fresh air… Despite that restaurant 1 PM is practically empty , I was refused to be seated outside on a closed in patio for that! I was literally told that only ordering full entry I could sit there!!! They suggested me to sit by the bar , Why are you should sit in the bar was drunk people in the middle of the day to eat my ice cream I just want to peacefully for 20 minutes to enjoy my beverage … Is that even legal? Are they so cocky that they located by the beach:) The smaller town is - the more obnoxious and trashy they treat people , they should be ashamed about themselves VirgaMore
