Instead of traditional Inn N Out for cold post-rain Valentine’s Day, we decided to check out Urban Cup Cafe near home. To get our feet wet, we ordered several appetizers to share for a light early dinner (~4:30pm we’re the 1st dinner diners). We ordered...cha siu bao (3); gyoza (dumplings); house salad w/vinaigrette; garlic fries; roasted Brussel sprouts. Just right amount & very tasty! Cashier/server accommodated our questions (mostly re: are the dishes spicy? I can’t do spicy). Chile-lime vinaigrette with Brussel sprouts not spicy at all—very delicious & filling! Gyoza were cooked well (not too hard, oily, or rubbery)—side sauce looks spicy but it’s not (for those who like spicy, there is a condiment station w/habanero sauce, etc). Some may comment cha siu bao are small, but for us it was fine, more meat, slightly crispy outside which was pleasant. House salad w/Asian vinaigrette, crispy sprinkles, pink onion(?), sliced radish was good contrast to meat appetizers. Garlic fries (says Cajun, which you can have, but thankfully they gave us the option of no Cajun spice) came out last, piping hot & crisp w/catsup on side—wisely they put minced garlic on the side so we can modify how much or little to include fresh garlic with the fries. Brussel sprouts toward bottom of bowl was getting salty, but drinking cold water took care of that. We were surprised to finish eating everything! Food served on cool-looking dishes. There’s casual background music but thankfully not too loud. Both gender-neutral & wheelchair-accomodating restrooms were clean & had the powerful hot-air hand dryer. I haven’t checked on TripAdvisor but noted restaurant owner Aidan is responsive to client posts on yelp—if there is concern or problem they encourage customers to bring those up to staff/management. These 5 dishes were less than $30 (tax included). We plan to return & try other dishes.More
