Where to begin... lets start with the cabbage and blue cheese salad, then there is the most amazing cheese bread that melts in you mouth. Just that alone is enough with an ice cold beverage. Now the main course... they are all good, with the...More
My granddaughter is a Vegan and very hard to take to restaurants. Our waiter, Mac went out of his way to make sure that what she ordered was correct. He was so kind to see that she had a wonderful meal. It was my son's...More
The wife owed me a steak, as our Christmas got blown, so she had in mind to make up for it at her childhood fav, Clearman's. I had been to another location a couple times many years ago so I was up for it.
My family began going to Northwoods Inn in Covina for Christmas Eve dinner when it first opened in 1967. I was 10 at the time. Every single year, on Christmas Eve, we went to Northwoods Inn. Every single year the food was perfection, the service...More
I've been two the Northwoods Inn about half a dozen times, but have also just purchased their food to cook at home. Usually the first place we stop when we arrive in California every year. The blue cheese salad is delicious, and so is the...More
I first visited this restaurant in 1968, most recent visit, last night. It has always been great! Red Cabbage Salad is fantastic; great dressing on the lettuce salad. Cheese Bread, Cheese Butter on the baked potato, rice pilaf and a great filet. Great service (thank...More
We had always enjoyed the food at Northwoods in Covina as we both grew up in Covina. We drove from Hesperia to celebrate our 38th Anniversary but what a major disappointment. First the pricing of drinks from the bar were overpriced. A soda was almost...More

hen we went there they charged us an $8.00 split charge. The server did inform us of the charge, but I agree wholeheartedly that it should clearly be posted either at the table of clearly on the menu somewhere. Because it isn't posted anywhere, it comes across as a slap in the face as saying, "Thanks for eating here but since you aren't going to spend as much money as we think you should, we're just going to extort an additional $8.00 from you and call it a "split charge"!
Our food was pretty nasty as the steak was at least 50% fat!!! When we informed our server of this she just told us that she would tell them in the back and then we never saw her again!! The next time she showed up she had the check in hand and we told her we weren't paying for a steak that was 50% fat so she finally decided it was time to tell the manager. He came over and did offer to replace the steak and told us the server should have made the same offer, which she never did. We told him that we were just interested in getting out of there at that point and that I expected him to take the steak off the bill. He refused and said he was only willing to remove the $8.00 split charge to which I responded, "that isn't good enough" since the steak was mostly inedible fat!!! He became quite short with us at that point and further refused to do anything else for us other than just remove their ridiculous split charge!!
Clearman's clearly blows and don't expect any customer service from their corporate offices either as they were just as short and rude to us as the manager was. We sure as hell wont be going back to this sub-par dive so called restaurant!!!
