Tremendously good seafood which you can take home and cook or buy prepared in their deli. Some foods are made to go. There is a wide selection. The fish is always fresh and good. I shop here regularly.

To much delight, the restaurant was remodeled, adding a much needed and counter friendly, well-stocked oyster bar; the Bostonian chowder is the best in Costa Mesa; tasty shellfish abounding; the inside dining area is small and intimate, complimented by an attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable staff; The fish cuts in the deli case are of vast selection and superior quality. Noticeably... More

We have been going to Santa Monica Seafood in Costa Mesa for many years and were there again yesterday. I had wonderful Clam Chowder and a great Crab Louie Salad that was actually more than I could eat. I also had their flavored Ice Tea which was quite good. My wife had a Lobster Sandwich that was more than she... More

We are always looking for a good fish place and usually go to The Crab Cooker. Just for a change, we tried SMSF. It is less crowded, the parking is much easier, and the food is comparable to The Crab Cooker. I had shrimp, but it was less than memorable, in fact, I only remember that, because it is what... I usually shop here once or twice a week for seafood to take home and cook for dinner. They have a great selection of fresh seafood and it has always been of high quality. They also have prepared pokes, salads, cooked shrimp, etc. The restaurant was upgraded a while ago and I occasionally come for lunch. Last week I stopped... More

This establishment is equally a restaurant and a fish market. The fish in the market always looks fresh and appetizing. In the restaurant, the offerings are limited, but what is offered is quite good. For travelers, this place is on 17th. If you are driving up Newport, away from the beach, you would turn right onto 17th. This would be... More

Everything here is literally fresh off the boat. A wide array of fresh catch is available and you can even sit here and have it prepared right then and there. I love the clam chowder and the fish fillets presented that day are scrumptious!

After reading the previous reviews, we had high hopes for this place. We're from across the country and wanted some great seafood. The bread was tasteless, the Lobster Roll sandwich and both Clam Chowder soups all tasted like they were from a can or plastic tub, and the Swordfish sandwhich was was very thin and bland. Just those items and... More

This is the Orange County outlet of the famous seafood fishmonger and it lives up to its heritage. Cases of fresh fish and shellfish, oyster bar and restaurant. We ate lunch and it was expensive ($60 for 2) but the fish was fresh, excellently prepared and worth it.
