Impeccable service. Food looks great but when ours came y chicken was bland and tough and husband's dish was overcooked. Owner made his rounds checking on all patrons. Our mediocre response prompted him to ask more. We shared our surprise at how our meal came out, since everything around us looked delicious. He was quick to make amends and we... More

Fish Taco was wonderful, the warm chips above average, the spicy salsa (served in individual bowls so you can double dip!) are all tasty. However, it was the opportunity to try a multitude of tequilas that makes El Matador extra special!

Don't have the tamales. Dry. But everything else was good. Service not great. Nice atmosphere, great salsa and chips. We will go back, since it's difficult to find a good Mexican place in this area.

We have been coming here for 20 years or more. Absolutely the best Mexican food. The restaurant is family friendly, has room for large parties and small booths for intimate dining. We drive over an hour one way just to eat here. The warm chips and salsa are amazing. Great with the margaritas. We love the pork green chili verde.... More

Not a lot of flavor in there food. Ordered Enchalada's, Tacos, and tamales. Tamales had too thick of Masa, and the rest was not very flavorful. Prices ok

The food at El Matador is great. You will not find better authentic Mexican food in the area. The only negative is rather haphazard service -- waiters forgetting what you asked them to do. This happened several times during our visit. Guests do not have a dedicated waiter -- just lots of staff rushing about. This is not conducive to... More

OK, let's start with El Matador may not be the 'best' Mexican food you ever have, but truly a great non-chain experience brought to you by a staff who work as if they own the business. Consistently good food, great service, endless chips and my wife reports fresh guacamole. How can that be bad? I can definitely give El Matador... More

Best taco tues place in Costa Mesa. Authentic Mexican food. Top shelf tequila.... Bar tenders are fantastic. Chili verde green sauce is amazing. Historical land mark of Costa Mesa. Fun for whole family

Well, I would not say that I'm a Mexican Food fan, but this place is the best! I love the shrimp cocktail and many other menu items. Our family visits every time we are in the area and I see many familiar faces! Leave fat & happy every time. I've been going there for over 20 years now! I'm glad... More
