We are on a 3 night Covid getaway to San Diego and staying at the Ocean Park Inn (love!) in Pacific Beach. Spent the morning on Coronado and based on Yelp reviews headed to Clayton's for breakfast. It was a Friday morning and we wanted...to sit outside (due to Covid). Waited about a half hour and it was well worth it. All 3 guys that waited on us were so friendly and fun and never rushed us despite the number of people waiting. Husband had the Florentine benedict and really enjoyed it. I had the pancake combo and the bacon was fantastic. Coffee was especially delicious too. We loved this place and would love to return someday!More

This was, hands down, the best meal we had on Coronado. We went for breakfast on a Saturday and it was early enough that we only had a 10 min wait for two spots at the counter. The staff not only strictly masked, but enforced...it for those waiting outside and there was plenty of space to social distance. Once we were seated, the fantastic team service began. No waitstaff walked near us without getting us drinks, refills, or asking if we needed anything. I had a simple breakfast of eggs, bacon, hash browns and gluten free toast. Most restaurants don’t offer any gluten free bread options, you just skip the toast, so I was pretty happy about that. My husband had the biscuits and gravy. Both breakfast were phenomenal. Every item was perfect. The atmosphere was fun and upbeat, even in these tough times. I just wish the waitstaff had name tags so I could give them a shout out by name.More

Clayton's is THE place to eat while in Coronado. It will take you back in time with its loads of comfort food and home baked goodies. I have never had a bad meal at Clayton's. Even if you have to wait a bit to be...seated (it's a rather small diner) it is definitely worth the wait! The staff is super friendly and always eager to please. Reminds me so much of the wonderful diner my grandmother used to own and operate.More

no, not at all impressed. due to covid you have to order at a small window on the street, and then we ended up waiting in the sun for the 3 sandwiches for an HOUR!!! but still, the milkshake wasn't made, so we waited another...15 minutes for that on top of the long wait. got to the beach just to find the one order was totally wrong, they gave us a bag with someone else's food, so I guess someone else would also be upset. won't be back for sure, it wasn't the hour plus wait worth. sorry.More

Claytons has provided a time warp to go back to the Fifties; the jukeboxes on the counter and table tops, outfits of the welcoming and friendly staff, and most importantly all this with delicious and plentiful food and a good value.

I don’t think you can go here and eat a meal plus dessert. We just had dessert. The gooey cinnamon roll sundae should be shared by the table. Two of us ate it but probably should have found someone else to share it with. It...was so so good.More

Finding a good breakfast spot while on a business trip is important. We randomly picked Clayton's from Yelp figuring if we didn't like it, we'd pick another place the next day. After our first visit, we knew we'd be back everyday for the remainder of...the week we were on Coronado Island. Clayton's a small diner that looks like not much has changed in many years. It's old, but well maintained. There are old jukeboxes along the counter and in the booths. Two of our three days there, we sat at the counter since the booths were full and we wouldn't have all fit in a one anyway. Like I said, it's a small place. However, for breakfast, this isn't bad since you're not there too long anyway so the seats turn over fast. The staff was friendly and attentive, especially when sitting at the counter. The menu has traditional diner items with a distinct Mexican twist. I'm a sucker for good machaca and the machaca scramble did not disappoint. I will say that I ordered it twice and the first time it had more eggs than meat and the second time there was much more meat than eggs. Maybe there were two different cooks in the kitchen. However, both were delicious. We tried a variety of other dishes, mostly egg-based, and no one had any complaints. The portions are also quite generous. Clayton's is a "coffee shop" and not officially a diner, but it could hold its own against any east coast diner, which is high praise coming from a resident of New Jersey, the diner capital of the world.More

Clayton’s Coffee Shop is a Coronado staple that has been around for many years. It serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Weekends are especially busy here, so expect a wait. The baked goods are homemade. Try the apple pie Alamodome-delicious! The milkshakes are absolutely outstanding. If...you like egg salad, try that as well. Just about anything is good on the menu. Worth the drive.More

We saw this place a day before we went, while taking a walk in the town, it looked cute and we saw lots of people waiting for a table around bfast time. We returned next day and waited about 45 min for the table as...it's very small.. We ordered a breakfast platter, bagel egg sandwich, these two were good. French toast it's very plain and greasy, hashbrowns were terrible... no flavor and just smashed cooked potatoes, pan fried and burnt. Coffee it's average too.More

Not really, no patio. We parked in the shade and left the windows open then took our boys to dog beach after!
