Dined with a group of friends. Pleasing atmosphere and outside dining is available. We had an excellent server. The food is rich with heavy cream sauces. My potatoes were greasy, but the meat was done exactly as ordered. Vegetables were just OK, some overcooked and...others tough. Watch the bill. A 20% tip has already been included on the paper you sign. Only the other billing page discloses this.More

My wife and I have been coming here for years. The freshness of the ingredients and the wonderful flavor combinations come through in every meal. The drinks are well made. The service is prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. I can’t say enough good things about this...place. On a warm evening sit outside on the patio. Perfect.More

A truly excellent meal. We both got the butternut soup that was delicate and very pleasing on the palate. My wife got the pheasant sausage pasta and would not share! She loved it. I had some of the most perfectly cooked lamb chops I have...had in many years. It came on a polenta that was to die for - well that is maybe extreme description but the best polenta going back more than 20 years at a La Jolla restaurant. I did share the polenta with my wife and she keep dipping her spoon in for more. Now the Bartender served drinks that were craft made. I first had a French 75 that was very refreshing and had a perfect blend. Then I stepped up to a Pisco Sour which was again top notch. I ended the meal with a Courvoisier Cognac that was a generous pour. My wife the driver had a Grey Goose, soda with a splash of orange and loved it. They have a wonderful specialty drink list, and a very nice wine selection. So if you want some fine dining in Chico, this is the place.More

We went to a group seminar there. My husband had the salmon which he said was very good, and I had the short ribs which melted in my mouth with delicious mashed potatoes, and spinach. The service was good even considering we were with a...large group. We will go there again just the two of us.More

Beautiful atmosphere and decor. Ordered eht should have been a very nice wine for $14 but tasted like the bottle was just opened and ascedic. The risotto and steak had a nice gorgozola melted in but the risotto was underdone. My wife had the $24...mushroom noodles which were too butttery-oily. Her tummy is still unhappy. We saw lots of people going in so we might have made bad choices. Hope they had nice meals. We're not going back.More

Brought my mom here for her birthday. Was hoping the table in the corner would be a bit more quieter for us but there was a lot of noise in the dining room that night and we had to speak rather loud to hear each...other. Food was delicious! Salmon was cooked moist and flavorful and moms pasta was very good. Only other drawback was the bill. San Fran prices in Chico can leave a sour taste.More

Red Tavern used to be our favorite date night restaurant. It was always special - excellent cuisine, stellar service, and frequented by those with a sense of what boutique dining should be. Most always busy so a reservation is generally a must - but not...overbooked or crowded to the level of discomfort like some other local fine dining establishments. Nice wine list and knowledgeable staff. We even ordered on line a couple of cases of a great cabernet that had once been recommended by our waiter. But our last two visits since moving away have been for the Sunday brunch with our favorite grad school prof/mentor. Again it becomes busy but not the slammed crowds and wait like the better known breakfast/brunch local haunts. While not a secret - perhaps a well guarded knowledge for those that frequent. The older average age of the clientele says it's more about enjoying a delicious, relaxing meal than nursing a college party hangover. The bloody mary's and mimosas are still there but not as a jumpstart to the grande finale of a party weekend. The menu is not extensive but well rounded and the portions are just right to fill but spare you from the carryout box. My lady loves their bacon and those portions are generous - not just two limp strips. Whether dinner or brunch we've never had anything other than top shelf food and service and will return every chance we get.More

Our first time here and we will definitely return. The Valentines day menu offered a four course meal with several selections of entree and deserts. Our family and friends have eclectic tastes , so I was able to sample . The food was fabulous. The...place was packed and yet our food was served timely with servers who were gracious and attentive throughout our dining experience.More

You go here for the food, no bones about it. The menu is periodically refreshed so one will not grow weary of the same items. The atmosphere is great - warm, intimate. The entire team is top notch - chef, bar, wait. Generally, RT is...relatively low noise, but a few crannies are better than others. I was surprised to see no soup offered on the menu during our last visit. And also found no appetizers to my liking, oh my! The entree portion is always limited. The night of our visit we found little that I would call at all healthy. We had the crab special which was wonderfully executed but very buttery and not so much crab as crab flavored. There were a few flecks. For $40 a plate. We don't mind spending the money for a fine dining treat, but something about this visit left me a little dissatisfied.More

Hubby and I had something of a trying day, and needed a lift. Which, for us, usually means food. I wasn't terribly hungry, but I know he was. I wanted to try this place, so off we went. It was an off night-- a Tuesday,...I think, about 5:30 or so. There were people in the restaurant, but a couple of tables free. We were seated right away, at a pleasant table for two by the window. Let me just say that the timing, and the service, was perfect. We enjoyed our waiter, he was available when needed, didn't try to be buddies with us, but was pleasant and social enough. He found the perfect combination of friendliness and distance. The food-- perfect. Now, hubby and I are experienced diners. We love a great food truck taco, and salivate at the thought of another meal at Gary Denko. I have been a personal chef, and both of us have done our time in restaurants of one, to five, stars. Red Tavern has it all. Though my favorite locations have great views, Red Tavern does a great job of making you forget you are on a busy street. Pretty, every where you look, with a nice patio. But more importantly, the food really shines. This is the kind of place that makes Chico such a great place to live. Great food, as good as any in San Francisco, great service, and a local, affordable, neighborhood, restaurant.More

I can't complain on any front. The food is superb and top quality by any professional measure. I noticed they source locally for many ingredients and everything seems fresh. Food quality is arguably among even the best in SF and the wine pairing is strong...as well. The service is great and the waitstaff both attentive and helpful. There is a LOVELY outside patio area as well and a cute bar area to have a couple cocktails before sitting down to eat.More

Had dinner here while in Chico. The venue is very pleasant, but I think it could get noisy if it was crowded. There were only two other couples present when we were their but we could hear every word they said and they were at...the opposite end of the room. Our waitress was both pleasant and informative. We split a cheese plate starter which featured local cheeses. The entrees were very good and of ample size (one reviewer said dishes were small) and very well prepared. The wine list was more than adequate and featured both local vineyards and more wide spread wineries. The restaurant is located on a quiet side street and parking is no problem.More

The food here is very good, but don’t go if you’re really hungry. Their portion sizes are tiny. It has a wonderful atmosphere and it’s great for special occasions if you’re not very hungry.
