Great smoked fish right on the beach. When we ate there it was takeout only (we went down to the beach, but got sand in our tacos!). There was a significant line to order, but they were very efficient.

Ruddell’s Smokehouse in Cayucos...easy to find, limited hours (Covid-19) at present, and a simple menu which makes deciding on a “selection” (Tacos, Sandwiches, Salads or For the Kids) relatively easy. I’ve read the other reviews and have found that the major complaint (if the review...given is not a 5 Point review) is the amount of “filler” (Lettuce, Celery and Apple) put into either the Sandwich or Taco. The Sandwiches offered are the same as the Tacos (stuff inside). Essentially, two Tacos is the equivalent to one Sandwich...notice the price on the Menu reflects this. At the time of our visit...the establishment had run out of bread, you will notice in the picture of the Menu...the “boards” have been flipped over. No worries...since this was my first visit to this particular eatery, I was fine with Tacos instead. I however, agreed with the very few Reviewers who thought the amount of “filler” was copious...relative to the meat inside the Tacos. As a result, my 3.5 Point review! The service was prompt and courteous. The Smoked Ahi Tacos we ordered had nice flavor and were good, but a bit dry...I should have added the offered Cayucos Sauce. Next time, yes...I will revisit Ruddell’s, I will specifically order 1/2 the “filler”, add the Cayucos Sauce and 2x the meat in one Taco (regardless of price, because if it’s FABULOUS, I don’t mind paying for it)! We ordered at the door and took our order to go (no eating around the restaurant at this time)...which could have been the reason it wasn’t as moist as expected at the time of eating. All in all, for our first visit..in this Reviewer’s opinion, Ruddell’s Smokehouse earned two things. First, a solid “recommend” 3.5 Point review AND second, another chance to impress...as I am wise enough to “customize” my next order!More

I bought a small amount of smoked Albacore to munch while walking on the beach. It was pretty good and the price seemed reasonable. I reminded me of our visits to Newport Beach 50 years s ago buying fish off the pier and from the...beach smokers.More

This little place is right by the pier and beach. We tried it while staying in a nearby vacation rental. Chicken sandwiches for my kids and they enjoyed them. I tried a shrimp taco and it was delicious and loaded with greens. I also tried...a salmon salad which was absolutely loaded with salmon. This place is a win! Smells great, tastes great. Just go in and order then eat outside. Helpful staff too.More

We visited Cayucos, for a few hours when driving Route 1. Eating a Ruddell's smoked fish burritos on the beach with the view of the pier, surfers and sealions was a standout moment of an incredible trip. Highly recommend.

I buy smoked albocore and fish tacos when I go there, which is several times a month. The family and staff that work there are the greatest and it is a wonderful community business in Cayucos!!!!

On a whim, we stopped at this hole-in-the-wall place on the beach in Cayucos. You stand in line, order at the counter, then try to grab a seat outside. The smoked albacore and salmon tacos were amazing. Highly recommended.

This place was a random stop we did on our travel down the coast, it was in a small little town but was an easy stop and a delicious quick meal. You order at the window and sit at the tables outside

Ruddells is a tiny legend with a huge reputation across the country and a must see for international visitors. You order from a small deli-style counter and you eat outside at a few sidewalk ice cream tables... or walk across the beach frontage road and...eat sitting on the beach sand. Sometimes there are waits to order but that's because of the crowds of local and tourist visitors (weekends and summer in particular). Why? Mostly because of their famous and delicious smoked shrimp and smoked ahi tacos. If you are passing by, you need to try it. You'll be backMore

We had the pork loin tacos and I have to say they were the best I have ever had. Will definitely be going back.
