The red oak over which the meat is cooked adds a wonderful flavor to the steaks - the sides could really be revamped and improved, they're rather simple and lacking in quality compared to the steaks. Decor is very simple and rustic as this is a very old building in the middle of nowhere. Service is usually good. I would... More

I love this place and always have gone on the weekend, this time I went on a Monday 08/08/16. And the staff was horrible, our waitress was so busy chatting with the cook she ignored us and the hostess was very rude, they made me feel like I was there to bother them. I will go to the one in... Loved the little town of Casmalia, not far from Lompoc. Enjoyed dinner here while visiting family. The great need is that you get a complete dinner for 1 price- appetizer, salad , entree , side, and dessert! Portions are smallish except for the entree. Had the NY strip cooked over an open flame grill. Delicious. Great place to go if... More

Being my love for going to the Hitching Post II in Solvang, I thought I would stay in Shell Beach and try the Hitching Post I. It was a disappointing experience. It was not fun! The bar, was just that, a bar. Nothing eminated exciting. Very dark, very few windows if any in the entire restaurant. Hot as one could... More

This little place is out in the middle of nowhere! Luckily we go with some locals that lead the way. The steaks are pricey but worth it! You are not paying for the high profile name or the high rent location; you are paying for a top rate steak and that is what we got! Delicious!

This is what started it all!! The movie and the reality!! The best steaks and the remote location! The starters are just ok except the artichokes but when you get to the steak smother it with the salsa and you will not forget this. Excellent food unique location

Awesome steakhouse, out in the middle of nowhere! Our son is stationed at Vandenberg AFB, visits HP frequently, and highly recommended it. The service was friendly and very attentive. The steaks & ribs were outstanding, and the portions were huge. A tad pricey, but the quality and historical ambience made it worth every penny. This is a restaurant that's been... More

The Hitching post has been around forever and my family has gone here for over 30 years. The location and decorations are enough but the steaks and accompanying salsa is to die for. Lots of history and famous folks have gone here just ask the servers for details and stories

My group of 4 enjoyed some good drinks and very cold beer. I emphasize VERY COLD BEER because most establishments serve semi-cold beer. The barmaid was fabulous. We were seated promptly. It was the first time at the Hitching Post for my three friends, and the entire experience exceeded their expectations. Great good and great fun. We'll absolutely return. One... More

Meet a family member Frank Ostini 20 years ago at a Pinot function. And saw Frank his place in the movie Sideways. So I finally got to where I could enjoy a Hitching Post>' This was a treat weathered barn style build with an open pit fire in the kitchen on which they prepare all the meats. The meats are... More
