I could not resist "The Redneck", homemade cornbread, sausage, eggs, gravy and grits. There were other specialties on the end that looked equally tempting but you could also just order the standard breakfast. Diner style with large booths, it was not what we expected from the exterior.

I used to go to Esau's in Santa Barbara back during my college days (decades ago!) and loved it then for its big flavorful breakfasts and fun food servers. It had big flavors and attitude. I have eaten at the Carpenteria location twice and found that all these years later, the same is true: 2 eggs is more like four!... More

I went with my wife and son in law. The wait time was short, the food was delicious and in large portions. The server did a great job too. I will go again. U

I had the BEST chile relleno omelette here! We sat outside on the patio it was nice clean. They also offer vegetarian/vegan options someone in our party ordered tofu tacos and they looked BOMB! Totally recommend this place :)

Esau's is a place that will rank 3, 4 or 5 stars for most visitors ... the variation may come more from whether you like the cozy, parochial feel -- it's a café (family run I believe) near the ocean and has a very laid back, casual, relaxed feel. Service was quick with moderate numbers of people in the café.... More

Just exactly the type of local spot you hope to find visiting the area. No less than 5 people took care of our table every time they walked by. Weekends, like all great breakfast spots, are best to get there before 9am. Otherwise, expect to wait just a bit especially if you want to eat outside.

Found this after we turned off Route 1, oh and so glad we did. Menu fabulous, all ordered breakfast/brunch and was not disappointed. My pancakes with walnuts and apple, wonderful, my friend had the pancakes and blueberries and also agrees excellent. This is well worth a visit, love the old style diner inside.

The food was wonderful, fresh and plentiful. Loved the location just down the street from the sandy beach area of Carpinteria. The chef came over to speak with us and staff was friendly. VERY CASUAL.

This is an old school type diner, and you would expect it to still have jukebox controls at each table. The food is okay, with a surfer type of flair, e.g. MocoLoco, burgers and the sort.

Esau's Coffee Shop is avery welcoming and friendly place. Our 3 young kids were made to feel very welcome with colouring in on arrival. The salads were huge and fresh, the kids options pretty good, and it all came quickly and with very friendly service.
