Every trip to Carmel for me always include a stop at Akaoni for lunch. The restaurant runs at an easy pace, the lady owner is very quiet and not very talkative, and that's okay. The food is excellent and the service is good once the food get started. The sashimi is very good and some of the dishes are done... More

I am being going to Akaoni for a long time and every time I go I never leave disappointed , the food is top level there is no place in all the Monterey Peninsula that even come close to their level, can be little on the expansive side if you let yourself go and order too many things- I strongly... Food is great but Service is average. The lady owner is not too friendly. The restaurant sign is not very visible, so you must really look for it.

I ate at this restaurant two or three times. Best sashimi in Carmel and Monterey. The freshest, the most exquisite slices of raw seafood. Not easy to get here, usually you need a reservation. But it is worth it. The chef is an artist.

Let me start with the chef "issue". In my view, someone who prepares sushi of this caliber is an artist. And artists can be peculiar. In few restaurants other than a sushi bar will one be in such close proximity to the chef. If you sit at the sushi bar, you pay attention to the artistry in front of you.... More

This is excellent sushi. I have tried a few of the best sushi restaurants in Carmel but this is the top. Very small and you will almost certainly need a reservation on most days. I really never had a bad meal here!

A fantastic restaurant specializing in sushi and sashimi, but also serving other very good dishes. It is fairly traditional: its small, with half of the seats at the bar (22 seats in total). Relaxed atmosphere. The sushi chef is top notch and all of the fish is prepared when ordered (the fish is fresh, the cuts are fast and precise... More

I am a very long time sushi person. Plus / minus / neutral on Akaoni. Plus: Chef is very knowledgeable and takes great time / pride in his creations. They offer specialty creations other than standard sashimi and sushi that I have never experienced. I plan to return to try every one of these items and I suggest you do... More

Delish! This tiny restaurant does an outstanding job of producing great sushi. We started with the house salad, large enough to share, which was very fresh and perfectly dressed. We then had the 12 Nigri, chef's choice, with a tuna roll. We added two more eel for me and a spicy tuna roll for my husband. Might be the best... More
