How it ranks 35 out 110 in Carmel is hard to understand. If you wish to enjoy an outstanding menu, great and attentive service, a strong wine list my wife and I strongly recommend L'escargot. It is not fancy. But everything about this place is first class. Whether the special starters for the day or the Sand dabs or the... More

Service was impeccable, yet friendly, not rushed, even though it was Concours d'Elegance car show week. The classic escargots is garlic butter, escargots with puff pastry, onion soup and mussels appetizers were hot and delicious. The veal, sole, and steaks were so good we were sharing back and forth to try and decide which we best! Everything was! Small restaurant... More

Our server/head waiter, Dino, really made this experience worth a write-up. The food was great; nicely balanced flavors and cooked to perfection. However, it was Dino who made the dinner memorable by guiding us through the specials, the appetizers, and the wine list, to make a very nicely balanced meal paired with a nice wine. Great experience.

Wanted to enjoy French food and glad we found this lovely place tucked back a liitle on Mission St. Food was lovely and great Wines. Our waiter was very knowledgable on the wines and we had a lovely dinner. The atmosphere is typical French country and small and intimate. Perfect.

Wonderful traditional French dinner. This restaurant was delicious and took great care of our table of 8. Don't miss this spot when dining in Carmel.

I went with a friend. We ordered the price fixe menu to get flavor of the place. The steak we ordered was medium rare. Both of the steaks were uncooked inside. I took it home to cook it. The steak was of poor quality. The salad was sparse maybe 10 small pieces but super tasty. The best was the pomme... More

It is tucked away from the tourists flooding the other restaurants. They do not rush you so you have time to talk and enjoy. I had a seafood dish which was delicious. I would definitely return. Reservations are a must.

L'escargot is tucked out of the hub of downtown Carmel. It has been in busy for over 50 years catering mainly to local clientele. Dino, our waiter was not only very personable but very knowledgeable about the food and wine. No way is this restaurant #30 on list of best restaurants. They are booked overnight for a reason. I disagree... More

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. Most of it has to do with the ambiance...there really isn`t much. It was quite cold (temp) and didn`t really feel all that French. The service is fine but perhaps just a tad too attentive. I always get the scallops so for me the food is great. But our last meal was not... More

I would not rate L'escargot as being "magnifique" or "fancy and authentic" as two of my fellow reviewers have. L'escargot has been business for many years, so the assumption is that it is doing something correctly--and perhaps it is. Its ambience is inviting and its menu and wine list are absorbing. The only one really annoying problem was our well-intended... More
