Have been a patron for over 25 years and love this charming French bistro/cafe. That said, the interior really needs soem cosmetic updating. The bathroom is terrible and should be completely redone. The carpet in the main room is worn and tattered, and the whole room needs painting. Just those small changes would really refresh this Carmel landmark.

My wife and I love a good old fashioned French bistro and one that serves wonderful pastries is even more desirable. I'd been in earlier to sample one of their pastries and at lunch were struggling to find a place where we could eat a sandwich or soup. So we came back to the Patisserie. And we were pleasantly surprised... More

I don't like to leave unkind reviews, but this place warrants one. Beware! Everything about this place is bad. From the falling apart interior, to the awful food, this restaurant is awful! The pasta makes a high school cafeteria look refined. The "chicken pot pie" consists of cream of chicken soup with mashed potatoes on top. No pastry crust anywhere... More

So, this is a little gem, never super busy, doesn't charge quite as much as other Carmel restaurants, and has the best French food in town. Wonderful french onion soup, great main courses, and delish desserts. Best of all- on your way out, grab a breakfast pastry from the bakery counter. They serve lunch, dinner, and will also pick a... My teen daughter and I stumbled upon this place when roaming around Carmel and we absolutely loved it!!! Very authentic French country ambiance like being in your grandma's dining room with cute tables, fresh flowers, fireplace, French music. Very casual and not pretentious at all. We had their special which was shepherds pie and their ham and cheese croissant sandwich... More

First of all- the atmosphere. Soft classical music in the background and just the right amount of air conditioning created a soft and sweet mood for a dinner with some close friends. The restaurant was rather small but it didn't bother me one bit. The servers were attentive and very kind. The food was succulent and I ate every single... More

We usually buy a dozen of the pear tarts and store them in our freezer to eat during the year. This time, we tried the apple tarts. They were wonderful. The pastry was flaky and the apples were tasty. I have not tried their other products, but I am sure that they are equally good.

We dined here last night and had a wonderful meal. Need to mention prices well below average dinner costs in other very nice Carmel restaurants. Quiet atmosphere and seemed to have several locals dining there. Wait staff very friendly and attentive. Enjoyed a lovely Coquilles St. Jacques, on a bed of rice and julienned fresh vegetables. Husband enjoyed Roasted Duck... More

I really wanted to love this restaurant but something was missing. My husband and I both had onion soup which was very good. He had the duck which he liked. I had a shrimp and salmon dish which sounds great but it wasn't. The salmon was fishy. I think the place just lacked atmosphere. I wouldn't go back to many... More

A relaxing and comforting venue modeled after a European chateau where tables are thoughtfully spaced and fresh flowers, fireplace, candles and soothing musical notes are integral part of the dining experience. The ambience sets the tone for French country food served with a great deal of care for detail, and pastries baked daily on premises. Dining room is available for private dinner parties.
