A must is La Balena in Carmel. Small place . Great food - fresh and healthy. Great service . Great wine. I wish we had this in Dallas. GO!!!!

One of the small restaurants in Carmel with an intimate atmosphere. We are vegetarians and ordered the Minestrone soup and some of the Paninis. The food and service were excellent. The price is quite high, so not suitable for the budget minded.

We came here because it was so highly recommended by a local. Upon arrival, we sat at the front door for well over 5 minutes before someone acknowledged us. We sat out back, which is very pretty. Overall, the service was just really bad. The waiter brought me a glass of wine that was clearly not what I had ordered,... More

Love these smaller restaurants. I heard about this from friends in Dallas who said I should try it when they heard I was going to Monterrey. It is actually in Carmel. So glad I followed their advice. We had the bone marrow and a tripe dish for appetizers and the wild boar pasta and a spaghetti for our main dish.... More

enjoyed their strip steak and a boloneis taglioli pasta, both extremely tasty. Steak was local beef from around big sur, such a great flavor. a fantastic experience and will definitely want to come back. Superb

My daughter had been wanting to try this restaurant after reading the reviews. We had the Polio Fritto the Ricotta Gnocchi and the Pasta Special. I had the fried chicken. It looks very impressive when it comes to the table. The fried coating I was not impressed with, but the chicken was moist hot and very tasty. My companions also... More

Our dinner at La Balena was simply a delicious dining adventure. The dishes were flavorful and we should have stopped eating before we did but chose not to because of all the goodness. Table service was slow due to a busy night. There is inside and outside seating. Observations. The seating spacing is tight; I could nearly touch the person... More

We visited La Balena last week . I had the pasta Bolognese and my wife had the ricotta gnocchi. Our food was well prepared and the service was good. We started by sharing the cauliflower appitizer that was excellent! My Bolognese was good although the portion was a bit small. My wife's ricotta gnocchi was average. Wife's benchmark is Mario... I've owned more than one restaurant and prided myself in training my staff to give excellent customer service, hence my annoyance when treated otherwise. La Balena was a few blocks from our hotel and said it was dog friendly, so we decided to give it a go. It was about 5:45 and the place was nearly empty. We waited at... More

After reading other reviews, I had high hopes for my dinner at La Balena. As I walked in from the street, I was struck by the lovely flowers on the patio. Since it was raining, dining in the patio wasn't an option so we chose to dine inside. Inside, the restaurant decor was seriously lacking. It seems that all of... More
