We do not live in the Carlsbad area because if we did this would be our "go to" restaurant. We have been to PAON on two occasions, both to celebrate our anniversary. This last visit our server was Matthew P --- and we received the...best service we have had thus far. We highly recommend PAON.More
A delicious evening at Paon in Carlsbad!
Our server, Jess, was both professional and charming. Perfect service. A nice listing of wines by the glass was per for our dinner.
Appetizers included Sautéed Foie Gras with Rhubarb Compote and Veal Sweetbreads with smoked Pancetta, braised...Endive and Black Truffle Sauce.
Mains included Pan roasted Pacific King Salmon with charred Cauliflower, French Green Lentils and Red Wine Sauce; also Grilled Veal Chop with Blue Cheese Pomme Purée, Mushrooms and Bordelaise Sauce.
All meals were served piping hot , which is very rare in restaurants these days.
A true find for those who love French Cuisine, fine wines and great service!More
Both manager and waiter greeted us and both inquired after our dinners arrived as to our satisfaction.
I had Chilean Sea Bass and my spouse had the veal...both of which were prepared properly. 5 star.
Wine selection is adequate.
Recommend creme brulee for afters....Will be back again....with others.More
THE WORST EXPERIENCE I EVER HAD !!! We were looking forward to visiting this restaurant. When we arrived today I had a little dog (teacup Yorkie) with me, a service dog with a special bag to put her in when we are dinning. As soon...as the manager saw I had a dog he was very rude, so unwelcoming to us. He told me there was a NO DOG policy even after I told him my dog is a SERVICE dog. He told me other diners don’t want to see dogs. My dog is silent and Never distribute anyone sitting outside area and inside the dog bag!!!
It is HORRIBLE attitude towards customers, especially new customers and made me feel so uncomfortable. I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO A PLACE WHICH ACT SO UNWELCOMING I really was shocked, but the host just said BYE and walked a way. I go to restaurants with my dog from LA to Newport to San Diego and these days owners who are hostile to small silent dogs sitting outside area in bags DO NOT DESERVE TO BE SUCCESSFUL!!!More
Came in without a reservation and we were seated right away. Both indoor and outdoor seating, and they have heaters outside if it’s cooler out. Had the charcuterie board for an appetizer, and then scallops. All were delicious! Also had wine...they have a huge selection...and both bottles and by the glass too. So delicious. Would definitely recommend!More
We had a reservation early evening. When we arrived, there was few people around and we choose to sit outside. When the server arrived, we told him that we would like to have the heater on. And he said so you would like to have...the heater on. I also mentioned this was the first time to went out to eat. The server said to me:"this is the second time you said that." We order a bottle of white wine and asked to have the bottle chilled and the server told us the temperature of the bottle stayed chilled and not necessary to bring one up. Based on the attitude of the server, I would not be back even if they pay me for my dinner.More
The restaurant got slammed at 6 on a Tuesday night, not a normal time, but then again these are not normal times. There were major issues in getting food out of the kitchen and it took a long, long time to get our meals. The...special of Chilean Sea Bass was sublime and piping hot. The New Zealand venison was perfectly done and was delicious but could of been a bit hotter, obviously it was ready before the Sea Bass and had to wait. Our third item, the Gnocchi appetizer was awful I have had heavy Gnocchi before but this was not only heavier than a brick it was a hard as a brick as well, needless to say it was inedible. They graciously took it off our bill. Given the overall cost and our experience I am not sure we would go back.More
Got off on the wrong foot with waitress but once she understood my need to modify due to allergies she was great. The food was magnificent. I travel all over and found delight in everything I ordered. Starting with a lamb salad perfectly prepared. Then...pheasant over a vegetable risotto: The risotto pared with pheasant was phenomenal. Dessert was gluten free chocolate flourless cake with chocolate mousse. What a perfect ending. The service was quick and efficient . Lovely experience. First class everything.More
This was our second visit to PAON and we were not disappointed. My wife an I shared four courses each paired with wine. We started with the tuna and salmon tartare (Sancerre) , followed by the gnocchi (Pinot Noir), scallops (Chardonnay) and venison (Zin). Every...dish was very good, but the gnocchi was simply outstanding. We finished with a flourless chocolate cake. The service was amazing. You could tell that our waiter enjoyed food and was vary familiar with the menus. his recommendations were spot on. The outside patio as very inviting and the tables arranged in a way to make you feel very safe during COVID. Definitely our favorite restaurant in San Diego county.More
