First time to taste authentic Nepali, , Indian and even Tibetan food. We weren’t disappointed. It was very good and different palate away from regular burgers and fries. Lamb choirs for appetizer with their fresh bakeNaan garlic bread were great combination . Try it it...you want a change of palate .More

We ordered vegetable samosas that were a bit bland, lamb korma that was delicious with lots of extra sauce (and came with rice which we wished our waitress would have told us since we ordered Himalayan Briyani rice, too), naan which was great, and briyani...rice. We were given complimentary lentil soup that was great as well. Our waitress was chatty and from Nepal which was nice. She was concerned we didn’t like the food, but we were too stuffed to eat more. Atmosphere was nice.More

Just happened upon this place as we were visiting Oceanside and were in the mood for some Indian food. The place is located in an open courtyard style mall so you have to look for it. There are about 12 tables and they seem to...do a great take out business. The decor is very interesting and kind of comfortable. Service can be a bit slow if take out is booming. we enjoyed the mango lassis which tend to tone down spicy dishes. We ordered the nawaratan korma (vegetable cocnut curry), mixed mo:mi (dumplings), Himalayan biryani (tandoor chicken, lamb, shrimp, chicken), and the garlic cilantro naan at spicy level 1, which was just right for us. All of the dishes met our taste buds and where enjoyable and tasty. They also have soups, salads, seafood curry, vegan, and gluten free dishes. Lunch specials are offered dailyMore

The food and atmosphere were great. The service was a bit unusual and inatentive. Very soon after we got our soup and salad and before we could finish it we were served our main course. No offer to bring it back later, something we contemplated...but were afraid if what the "reissue" would look like. The chicken in the chicken tikka marsala was a bit tough. Twice we had to signal the waitress as we hadn't seen her in awhile. We'll consider this a one off as we always love their food and service.More

I usually judge a restaurant primarily by its food, but on this occasion I have to start with the atmosphere in the restaurant: literally. The whole place was full of smoke from the kitchen, as if the ventilation system had completely broken down. Oddly, the...other diners seemed oblivious, but I decided instantly that I could only cope with a take-away, and after my order had been taken, I said I would stand outside in the cold till it was ready, because of the unbreathable fumes. Even so, just going back inside a couple of times to see what had become of my order (it took over half an hour to arrive) left my clothes reeking of kitchen burning smells for the next 2 days. Ok, now to the food. Considering that the restaurant was full, always a good sign, and that this is their 5th outlet in the San Diego area, the food was disappointing. The vegetable pakora, accompanied by a zesty coriander chutney, had been prepared and cooked well, but had no detectable spice elements of its own, and its vegetable component seemed to be only onion. Of the main courses I sampled, the palak paneer was well balanced and just the right consistency, but the tadka daal was dull, with coarsely chopped dried chili peppers the only spice in the tadka that I could taste. The Aloo Bhanta (potato and eggplant dish) was oily and again rather tasteless. The extras (naan, papad and raita) were unexceptional and the plain basmati rice had clearly been cooked in very chlorinated tapwater and tasted nasty. Overall, far too many faults for a successful restaurant.More

I really wanted to love this place. The food was actually pretty decent. My complaint is that they list things as "vegan" on their menu, which aren't actually vegan. I ordered a dish because it was listed as vegan and this would have meant it...didn't have any dairy, which I was avoiding because of a problem with my breastfeeding infant. It came out with chunks of cheese. When I asked about this, I was told that the dish was not really vegan, even though it was listed as so. When I asked about other dishes, I was told that sometimes they put cream in things anyway. WTH??More

Sooooo good! And the staff was super friendly. We have to be gluten and dairy free and there are many options available to us. We'll definitely be back when we're in town again.

It is located downstairs of the Village Faire shopping center. Parking was easy. We got there when they first opened so there were only two other couples dining. The lunch specials are decent. For $9.99 you can choose two items and it comes with rice,...lentil soup, and naan. The drinks were a little expensive. A can of soda was $2.99 and the mango yogurt drink was $4.99. The lentil soup was less than a cup full and wasn't hot. It was kinda watered down. The meals were good. Since the ones we ordered were curry based the dishes all had that cinnamon color to them. The chicken tiki masala had good sized chunks of white meat and the flavors were really good. They give you enough rice to enjoy both entrees. The naan was delicious and the two pieces each were enough to finish off our lunches. They have sofas to sit on for half the side of some tables. If you have a sore back, use the chair. It was a little uncomfortable to dine while sitting on the squishy cushions because the couch was lower than the table, and you needed to sit on the edge of the couch to eat. We would definitely dine here again. The service was great, the food portions were awesome, and it was tasty.More

My husband and I thought we were in the mood for some gelato, but as we entered the Village Faire shopping center, we noticed a young man eating outside of the Taste of the Himalayas. "This is pretty good," he told us. As the lunch...special was only $10, we decided to take a chance. And were we ever happy that we did! I really appreciated that it was so easy to discuss how hot the spices might be (I opted for a 2; my husband for a 5) as we placed our orders. Our lunches each started with a small bowl of lentil soup, and although we chose very different lunch combinations, we each kept exclaiming how great the food was. Complete with naan, rice, and two lunch-sized entrees (I had the Chicken Vindaloo and the Aloo Cauli ko Tarkari), we each felt we had an exceptionally tasty, VERY well-priced mid-day meal. The food was great; the service was great; and sitting outdoors near the fountain on a beautiful day wasn't bad either. HIGHLY recommended!More
