It was a cold, windy day in Bodega Bay and the restaurant was a little chilly, but the food was very good. I tried the roasted oysters because I wanted something warm. They were piping hot and excellent. Service was attentive and good.
What should have been an enjoyable afternoon in Bodega Bay turned into one filled with disbelief. I drove my 90 year old father and his wife out there to meet up with high school friends from Sacramento so they could dine together for lunch. After...having to wait 30 minutes after our reservation time we were finally seated in a banquet style room with no ambiance but a view of the mud flats of Bodega Bay. The service and food was subpar, but the issue of the day came at bill time, which took forever to get. I ask the waitress to split the bill between $70 dollars given by one couple, a CC by another and my party. She came back, did not run the cards as I asked, so I asked her to redo them(big mistake!) After 15 minutes I became impatient because my father(90) was waiting. Upon getting irritated, the manager, Lucresia came to help. She made the situation worse, and when I told here just run the card so I could get my father out of there. She seemed unconcerned, looked at me, and with a determined look on her face said I needed to be patient! At that point I started to lose it, I asked for the card back and she denied me. As time passed, it was obvious that she couldn't figure out THEIR system, so their problem became ours. I did make an aggressive move to grab my card back. Never touching her, but only the card. She yanked it back and told me to stand off. I told her no, not until the card was returned. I think she is unaware of merchant responsibility, the card was not hers, legally it's mine, and she had NO right to refuse my request. At this point, another employee took the card and returned it to me. I left with my heart thumping just appalled at the way the issue was dealt with. Upon returning to Santa Rosa, as I drove being silent and pondering what just happened, I decided I would call the general manager, Marco. After several attempts, he finally called back, and had a defensive attitude from the start. The only thing he would acknowledge was that the process took too long from the video's he watched. Conveniently he said the audio wasn't available, but video was. He said I looked aggressive and wanted that to be his defense. If audio was available he would be able to share the rudeness to which Lucresia dealt with the situation. He then accused me of pocketing the $70 that one of the parties had left, and had the nerve to tell me 3 employees saw the waitress return it to me. It was only her around. Then I said I see why the staff acts the way they do, they have been well trained by him. Business is a top to bottom reflection, no better than who's at the top. I told him I was done with him and I'd deal with it my way, and he accused me of threatening him! This is my way for dealing with it. Upon reading other reviews, I realized I was not alone.
A review from 4/5/21 had a similar issue and response from a Tata Z.
I finish with these thoughts:
Tata Z is Asian, I am white. The staff that surrounded me in this ordeal is was all Hispanic. At 59 years old, I feel like there an act of racism committed against me and it sounds like it was for Tata Z too. Being a local Sonoma County resident, I am still at a loss for words that a local restaurant is run this way. They are one of the few restaurants that runs the business from a well, they just drive by and stop. Can't miss use, we're right on HWY 1. It's a one and done mentality business plan. Over priced, mediocre food at best, lousy ambience unless you like mud flats and a staff that is the rudest I've ever experienced top to bottom. Go ahead. Take your chance here, it's a joke!More
My husband and I came here to have an anniversary dinner. 5 years ago the food was fantastic. Today? Not so great. The only thing that tasted decent was the clam chowder and fresh crab. Everything else seemed bland which is shocking because we are...near fresh fish!
The ambience in the pictures on the website shows a very intimate and relaxing space. When we arrived it looked like a Denny’s. While the views are beautiful, the food lacked culinary delight.
We spent $145 for a Denny’s atmosphere. It took over 1.5 hours for two people to eat clam chowder, half a crab, crab melt sandwich, pasta, ice tea, soda and ice cream. I could have gone to Red Lobster and gotten more flavor and paid less.
Skip this place and find a better spot to enjoy bodega’s fresh sea food.More
With many restaurants not serving indoors or even out of business, our day was saved by eating at The Tides. The menu is varied, with many seafood choices, although the Genovese pasta was delicious. The servings are large, and the service top notch.
About what I expected from the 6th best out of 10 restaurants in a town. I had the bay shrimp cocktail and New England clam chowder. Nothing to say about the shrimp cocktail, chowder could have been from a can. The sauce that came with...the burger was good. After we finally were seated our server was prompt and attentive. I think the best thing we ate was the bread roll. The #1 & #2 Trip Advisor restaurants were closed which is how we ended up here.More
Came here on a recent Thursday night and had a nice meal (fish and chips for husband, prawns and chips for me) with great service. Appreciated how far apart the tables were, the warm portable heaters near the tables, and the courteous service provided. Would...definitely return.More
There was nothing special about this place, I was hoping for some really great shell fish, but nothing on the menu stood out. We had an appetizer with bay shrimp (meh) and prawns) . I opted for the clam chowder soup bowl because it had...gotten very cold. It was good enough. My husband had the fish and chips - it was corn breaded and not all that great. Service was good. But for the price - not worth it.More
Views overlooking the harbor, seating is strictly outside in the patio. They do have heaters so it helped some for the colder coast weather. We had the chowder they offer both a new England clam chowder and tomato-based seafood chowder. Chowder runs about $17 for...a bread bowl.It was good but not the best we’ve had this week.More
