While on vacation, we’ve eaten in several Hillstone restaurants in San Francisco, Scottsdale Az, Santa Monica and here in LA. In general terms, we love them: great venues, attentive and friendly servers, and a good comprehensive Menu which differs very little from restaurant to restaurant....Although we’d reserved on-line, we had to wait for our table at the Beverly Grill, but even if we were sat under a freezing cold air air-conditioning unit and even if there was no Pacifico beer, only Modelo, we were still looking forward to our meal. Perfect servers Monique and Marcel were just fabulous. A quick check on the menu revealed that all the prices have gone up since 2018, but even so, my wife’s Crunchy Shrimp Roll was still superb, and my Cheeseburger was first class, even if the skinny fries are now getting so skinny that you gotta crunch real hard to find any potato. Then came dessert. The main menu does not include desserts so we were told what was available, and as often before, we opted for the excellent Key Lime Pie, with ice cream in preference to whipped cream. It was shockingly delicious. But the real shock came when the check arrived. The slice of Pie plus a scoop of ice cream came to a staggering $21.00. Yup. $21.00. And when you add on taxes and then gratuities, this comes to an even more staggering $28.75 .... for a slice of pie! To quote John MacEnroe “You cannot be serious!” Nothing else to complain about and we would go back tomorrow, because we like the place and we like the people, but this pricing is ridiculous. And that’s why I’ve given it four stars only. PS If you ever visit Hillstone in Scottsdale Az, you’ll find that the same cheeseburger costs $6 less and the same Key Lime Pie is a staggering $7 less!More
