Our visit to Saul's was mostly intentional, but we sort of wandered in on a Saturday morning for breakfast. While busy, the hostess was able to seat us with no wait. Our server was friendly and efficient, and she gave us great recommendations on some favorite dishes. Food was prepared perfectly - it's not fussy but absolutely satisfying. If you're... More

I've been here a few times because I really want to like it a lot. I think people keep going here because it's a comfortable, familiar local haunt with decent prices (this is the SF Bay area), but: Terrible latkes (that's how I judge a Jewish deli), very dark, dense, and chewy, like they were cooked hours before and tossed... Sauls became our breakfast destination on a recent trip to Berkeley. The food is good well presented and the atmosphere of the diner inspired interior is enchanting. The food reminds me of my childhood corned beef hash, pancakes and perfectly cooked poached eggs. You must try this if you are into deli foods the food is fabulous.

Ordered corned beef sandwich for lunch. The sandwich had a clump of meat in the center - a big disappointment! Asked for water and received a small glass of water with no ice.

We had matzah ball soup and pastrami sandwiches. Pretty darn good deli as good as L.A. but not quite as good as New York. Pickles were great too. Friendly environment and good service.

I've eaten there a few times and am usually disappointed. It just - well - could be better. But if you are craving this type of deli meal - corned beef sandwich or chicken soup or chopped liver or lox or a large selection of deli standby desserts - this is your best option in Berkeley.

We enjoyed wonderful pastrami on rye sandwiches with pickles. It was a lovely day so we were able to eat outside. I'd like to try many other menu items.

be sure you get the dish of house pickles. something for every appetite and the menu has old standbys as well as things that reflect the season and/or holidays. generally good service although it can be a bit slow. friendly and a great place for families old and young.

I come here with friends to get NYC deli food--great pastrami, bagels, comfort food. I like the borsht soup, stuffed peppers, and black and white cookes.

My wife and I always wanted to try Saul's and for a while put it off. Shame on us - we should have gone there earlier. Very comfortable and kid - friendly. I had the 1/2 sandwich and cup of soup combo. I chose the best of both worlds - their famous matzo ball soup and house-smoked pastrami sandwich. The... More
