Had to wait a really long time for seating, then also for food, but the taste was wonderful and fresh.

Several friends had mentioned Zatar to me in the past and I wish I had gone there sooner. But a few nights ago a friend and I went and were served by the owner/chef, Waiel Majid. I am not sure how he was able to manage it all (we were there early since we had a play to go to... More

I saw this on Check Please Bay Area episode and wanted to try it out especially since it's Mediterranean food. Went there and a large group had sat before us so everything was slow. On top of that, they only had 1 (one) server for the whole restaurant (small place though). We ordered the Kabob Feast for Two, fish dinner... More

Zatar uses excellent ingredients to produce an eclectic North African/Mediterranean/ Near Eastern/California cuisine. As you can tell from the build-up of descriptors, it is hard for me to pin down the cuisine, but that's the beauty of it, and I have not ordered anything that wasn't great. Everything seems to be a perfect expression of California ingredients in Near Eastern/North... More

It's not often that you find authentic Middle Eastern food in America so this little find definitely exceeded our expectations. The restaurant itself is really cute, I especially loved the window seats and the leather bound menus. Our waitress, the owner, was lovely and clearly took pride in the food she was serving. The citrus sangria was refreshing, the hummus... More

The biggest complaint in the past was that they did not take credit cards. Problem solved since they are now accepting them. Fresh ingredients, mostly organic, some of which are grown by the owners. They owners are wonderful and are the cooks. Try the Bborekas ( fillo pastry stuffed with leeks, greens, sheep’s milk feta & fresh herbs), Lebna bil... More

I went here with my girlfriend because we like Mediterranean food and heard about the place on TV. When we went we are highly disappointed, the food is overpriced, with mediocre flavor, and the portions they serve will make sure you're hungry by the time you get home. We order the appetizer sampler for $16, that's essentially for sauces, hummus,... More

My wife and I visited for lunch recently, as she had been interested to try Zatar. Right off the bat, things didn't go so well - we walked in to a nearly empty restaurant at noon, to be left standing unattended for quite a few minutes. When someone (evidently the owner) did emerge from the back, dealing with another transaction,... More

Had lunch here by chance, we enjoyed everything we had. The dolmas were fresh and meat filled with a yummy yogurt sauce. I had been wanting to have kefta kebab all summer ever since I read a great recipe for them These were moist, favorable and light I only wish there were more than 3. Had plenty to eat though... This is a unique, neighborhood restaurant. They specialize in Mediterranean dishes that you'll enjoy more than anywhere else. Their drinks are fantastic and the owners and staff couldn't be more friendly. Go soon. Go often. Marty
