Excellent food

The food is excellent - pretty much anything you order. The plates can take some time, and in more than one occasion part of our table received their plates while another part did not and we had to wait. Last time I was there they recommended we share our plates (the sizes are generous) so as to... read more

And that was rivaled by the vibrant green penne al pesto, and the roast pork shoulder. We had a reservation, and it was honored promptly by the very nice hostess. We would have preferred not to have been so close to the door, but it really never was a problem. It's a narrow restaurant, but again, it was never an... More

Our family eats here often, and we've all enjoyed every single meal. It has become one of our favorite restaurants in the Bay area. This is Sicilian cooking, which can be a bit spicy, but it is delicious. Our favorites are the Penne al Popette, Pork Sugo, and Bean Soup, but we've tried it all - and it is all... More

You owe it to your self to visit this restaurant. Great food, great wine, great ambiance. We ate there Christmas eve. Although we had reservations, the wait was long - at least an hour after our reservation. The restaurant is small but once inside, there was a European family vibe that was infectious. While waiting, the owner Angelo came out... More

The wait can be tedious, the Cash-Only payment a pain in the butt, but the food is great, consistent and as close to Sicilian as I have found in the Bay Area. Too bad they discontinued the "chefs choice" option; nice to have the chef regale you with his whims. Family style dishes are a plus for large groups, or... More

This place is very busy, and for good reasons: the food is terrific and the prices are very reasonable. Our party of three shared two antipasti, Caponata Siciliana and Butternut Squash. Both were very tasty. Our entree choices were three pastas: Bucatini 'chi finucchiede' (with sardines, pine nuts, currants, sweet onion, anchovies, saffron, fennel, and topped with toasted breadcrumbs), Rigatoni Giovanella... When I asked around for local preferred restaurants, no less than 5 people recommended this place. Thus I had high expectations. It's pretty much a hole in the wall, and when peering at the menu posted outside, the waiter came out to talk me into sitting down. Table flowers were wilted and decor is on the cheap side compared to... More

After a properly room temperature basket of bread we were served a misto fritto, surprisingly light and full of flavor. Next arrived our diverse seafood sampler set on linguine, dressed in a robust red sauce. Our final shared entree was a sumptuous full bodied porcini and cream-filled tortellini. Only my 16 year old dinner companion could have devoured a warm... More

We made reservations for a birthday dinner at this popular restaurant, but arrived to find they had given our reservation away because an older woman "begged them for a table". We had arrived a few minutes early and thus were shocked, especially as they seated walk ups before us! The hostess was clueless and clearly unable to manage a busy... More

This small restaurant in the great neighborhood of Elmwood is almost too popular. We were told it would take about 10 minutes to get a table, but it was rather more than half an hour. During weekends, you might even have to wait, if you make a reservation. Therefore, if you can, come during the week, because the food is... More
